RE: Americans!!!
The Portugese born queen consort does not =The Portugese.

That's like claiming the Greeks are responsible for every harebrained idea of The Duke of Edinburgh.

So are we going to get an insult thread? I'm not going to start it because I'm new around these parts and people might start thinking I'm a c*nt.... as opposed to knowing I'm a c*nt.

RE: Americans!!!
American peoples have a lot to be said against them. Although it is impossible to paint them all the same colour (commonwealth citizen, although begrudged). There are stupid Americans, smart Americans, tall and short, moral and dangerous. But I think most of what is wrong with Americans is learned (or in this case left unlearned). If you are lied to every moment of your life, how does that effect your concept of reality? If you are pulled this way and that, forced to be a pawn in a huge consumerist game that is never in your best interests, how does that effect your quality of life? If they decided it is a good way to make a buck to drug children for hyperactivity, how does that effect your ability to grow into a fully functioning individual?

The American is ignorant, belligerent and self destructive, but not by some fluke of genetics. They were carefully taught to be exactly that way.

British people are similar, except their empire slowly faded without full collapse, and they have bad teeth. And the same Dark Hand is at work where you live (and here in The Great White North, me thinks it's everywhere) making all of London a Dystopic wonderland, and engaging in the same strange immigration practices as America has been forever.

Britain is also the size of Nebraska. Well, Nebaska may be bigger. We in the New World got a better deal. Suckers.

Fox Noise has done much to destroy our grasp of reality. They're not to blame for every bit of distortion but I think they got the ball rolling. Once the far right learned that facts were optional in a debate, they ran with it. Meanwhile, the media started dropping the ball by softening their interviews and allowing right wingers to freely lie on air. It's getting progressively worse over time.

I remember with longing the 80s when it seemed like we spent 20% of debate time on what the facts are and 80% of debate time discussing how to interpret them. For example, was the recovery because of Reaganomics or the oil glut or what?

During the Bush misadministration, we spent 80% of our debate time on what the facts are. "No, there were no links between Iraq and Al Qaida". "No, there were no links between Iraq and Al Qaida." "No. there were no links..."

I thought that was bad but it's gotten even worse. Now, they don't deal with facts at all. Bluster and buzz words will do quite nicely, thank you. I listen to these tea bag candidates and I have no idea what the fuck they're even talking about. Political rhetoric has literally become incoherent.
