Not everyone is into subtitles. Dub away, Lad.

On another note, the "no dubbed" rule doesn't seem all too necessary to me. I get that a lot of dubbing is bad, but not always. In at least a few rare cases the dubbing can be very well done, while the original Japanese voices can be just terrible. I really just see that rule as a bit elitist for no good reason.

. . . enough said, I think.

You're not allowed in this thread anymore!  How DARE you!?

-edit-

Does someone know of a nice hefty series (50 episodes+) over the past couple years that they'd recommend? Being appropriate to a 12 year-old girl would be a plus, but not necessary.

How dare I? Because I have something called good taste. Hehe

Yes... maybe not for a 12 year old girl, though. Older girls? Absolutely. Ask me again in a few years.

Oh wait, yes! Chiyahafuru is a great one and about 50 episodes long so far. A 12 year old might like that one.

I don't call myself an anime fan anymore. The simple fact is that most of any type of thing is mediocre: Few of anytype of thing is quality. I like good anime - like Fate/Zero or Psycho Pass or Evangelion or Mushi-shi or Berserk (though more-so the manga with Berserk.) I don't watch shonen or slice-of-life garbage.

Yeah, I sort through a lot of bad anime to find the stuff I actually like. You're right that it's true for just about anything. I'll honestly get into anime about as much as I will with any other source of entertainment, but it's occasionally well worth the trouble. The same goes for just about any variety of show on Netflix, of course. So much crap with the uncommon sparkling gem.

Slice-of-life is not garbage, though Shake Fist

Yeah I did like Fate Zero and Psycho Pass. Well I still haven't finished the 2nd season (Psycho Pass)as I got distracted. I do like a lot of the popular anime like Tokyo Ghoul, One Piece, Naruto and some others. Welcome to the NHK was surprisingly hilarious.

I'm not some dude that watches anime all day though. Most days its 1-2 episodes or none.

It all depends on your teacher, my tutor I hire out for private lessons and her way of teaching has taught me a lot. I've been slacking though of lately, If you have a decent PC there is a game on steam that will teach you Japanese.

I've been using Learn in your Car. It's available through my music subscription service. Maybe that's part of the problem. I do have Steam so maybe I'll check that game out.
