Why the hell do I have the urge to eat an entire days worth of food by noon?

But seriously, ever tried anything over a day or two?

Not without assistance. Sickness (not fun), peyote, shrooms, cid, and mesc (very fun). Alas, those days are far behind me. That's a young mans trip!

I wonder if both ours and animals bodies "know" not to eat when sick so as to give all available energy to the immune system?

Possibly, but I think it's more complex than that. A simple and complex article.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact our DNA spent hundreds of thousands of years hunting and gathering food, which was not always available, through which the hunting body (animal or human) would have to be at peak possible performance in order to secure more food?

Eating food is like the constant burning of fuel...which builds up residue which we do not fully excrete. The mechanism of fasting is simple, natures way of cleaning residue out of the machine when it is not burning fuel + repair of parts.

I wonder if a 1250% in crease of HGH during fasting has anything to do with it?

In 1982, Kerndt et al published a study of a single patient who decided to undergo a 40 day fast for religious purposes. They measure numerous metabolic indices over that forty days to see what happened. There is a wealth of data here, but several notable things. Blood pressure slightly decreased. Glucose goes down. From 96 initially, it drops to 56. Insulin goes way, way down. Starting at 13.5, it quickly drops to 2.91 and stays down. That is almost an 80% drop!

Glucagon goes from 139 to a peak of 727 or a 423% increase.

But our concern here is HGH. It starts at 0.73 and peaks at 9.86. That is a 1250% increase in growth hormone. Even with a relatively short 5 day fast, we are talking about 300% increase. All this HGH increases without drugs.

Not going there. You lost me at non excreted residue, one individual makes a study and an overall flawed article.

A blood glucose of 56mg/dl is not something to be rooting for, lol.

Metabolic residue in cells. The intestines get rid of toxins from the body....unless the way is blocked, glad you brought that up LoC! Would you like a sample in the name of science? Wink

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3868385

The relative importance of these processes in the elimination of a highly lipophilic xenobiotic such as hexachlorobenzene (HCB) has been studied. It has been demonstrated that fecal (90%) rather than urinary (10%) excretion is the major route of elimination of HCB in most species. It has been shown also that the bile of HCB dosed animals contained HCB metabolites only whereas fecal excretion consisted primarily of the parent compound. These findings suggested that the bile could not be the source of fecal HCB. Indeed, bile duct ligation in rats increased rather than decreased the fecal excretion of HCB. Experiments in rhesus monkeys with complete biliary bypass confirmed the conclusion that the source of fecal HCB is not the bile, suggesting that most of the fecal HCB originated from intestinal excretion. Exfoliation of intestinal epithelium and exudation across the intestinal mucosa are the two major nonbiliary mechanisms whereby xenobiotics can enter the intestinal lumen. The contribution of desquamation and exudation to fecal excretion of HCB was estimated in jejunectomized and hemicolectomized rats. Removal of 50% of the jejunum did not influence fecal excretion of HCB, whereas excision of 50% of the large intestine reduced it by 40%. These data suggest that the source of fecal HCB is nonbiliary, intestinal transfer (exudation) from blood into the intestinal contents, which occurs primarily in the large intestine. Fecal elimination of HCB is significantly enhanced by dietary treatments with mineral oil or hexadecane.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

That's why I chew and suck on grass nodes during the days of fasting, they are sweet and full of chlorophyll.
I fast is the woods, everything I need is there.
