John Oliver...Spotlight on Johnson and Stein

RE: John Oliver...Spotlight on Johnson and Stein
They assume that even if I did vote, in fact it's the majority of effective campaign rhetoric isn't it?  "The other side is lazy and ignorant, vote for me, or it'll be the end of the world!"

A mass write in protest for a lampshade would be a wonderful tool. OFC, you'll be blamed for the loss of whomever whoever voted for regardless. Couldn't be that they were propping up a shitty candidate who didn't deserve the office, because same said shitty candidate effectively appealed to their credulity.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

A lampshade cannot serve as president..... although it would probably do a better job than Johnson or Stein.

No, one of the two main candidates is going to win.  At some point you are going to have to face that reality.

What gives you the impression that I don't?  They just won't win on my vote.  You see, I'm fine with the prospect of slogging through 4 years of presidential shit for refusing to vote.  As we've already established, I'd have to deal with that even if I did vote.

I really don't get most of the criticism about Stein. I think she'd be a better president than the other options we have. The main criticism of her that I do have (which is also why she's nowhere near being president) is that she doesn't assert herself at all. It doesn't seem like she really wants to be president.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

So he's supposed to ignore Johnson's act at the 10:35 mark?

Did I say he should?

Please, I'd never do that...but only because I'd have to reach my hand -into- the shitter to grab it, before I could toss it back in.  I touch my dick with those hands, never gonna happen.

I'm not sure what people think we are supposed to do to change the situation we currently have.  Electing lower officials who are sane won't change the 2 party system at the top.  Since it's all set up, we CANNOT vote our way out of it, nor get out of it by refusing to vote.

I'm seriously asking. I keep hearing people say, we need to change the system.  Well duh, it sucks, our votes pretty much don't even count in 90% of the country anyway. The whole things is shitty.  What I don't hear people saying is what we are supposed to do about it, that actually might cause change.  They just bitch and moan and insult people who are active in the current system at all. (Not directed at people in this thread so much as what I'm seeing on social media).

P.s. Bernie '20.  I don't care if he's on a ventilator, he's got my vote already.

Well, what I meant was that if you stay home, no one will know your disdain for the candidates. It will just be assumed you were too lazy to vote. Just go and write in "fuck all these assholes." It's at least doing something, as compared to doing nothing. If nothing else, it will at least register with the Dems that you wouldn't vote for their candidate even when faced with the possibility of a Trump presidency.

That's not entirely true.  There's this notion that the power of government arises from the consent of the governed.  Voting for them, (and at some point..even -against- them) gives government this legitimacy.   Without it, they cannot effectively goivern....which is why we're treated to the "2 party" con in the first place.  It's  basic decorum that even the govern-ing feel compelled to play out.  That we accept less and less to satisfy that minimum bar year by year makes it easier for them....we keep voiting for smellier turds, and so they say "fuck it", and present an even smellier one next time.  The less they actually have to do or give, the better. They're human beings after all.

Except for us, ofc, doesn't make anything better for us.  A visible non-fringe show that a supposedly representative government is no longer representative...that we won't even play along for the spectators, would make it -very- difficult to govern us. Think of it like this. If your local burger king could sell cat meat as an all beef patty, they would. They wo';t -stop- selling cat meat as all beef patties until you stop buying them. They will stop, then, because they like to get paid. I know, I know..."but we voted for the chicken sandwich!". Jokes on us, also cat meat.
