RE: Friends Across the Pond: Why You Should Not Give Up On America
Would it help if I said that the majority of the world is against Trump?

The problem with America reaping what it has sown is they've got the system set up so the poor and minorities feel the pain long before it touches the powerful ones who actually do this shite. And you are right, in a global economy it will reverberate around the world.

You do realise that over half the voting electorate did not vote for Trump don't you?

A country is made up of many different people. It may surprise you to learn that not all of them agree with one another.

Difficult concept I know. You may yet grasp it.

The world is always more nuanced than your simplistic thinking can cope with.

Most people just try and get by and cope with what life has dealt them and don't know half of what the government does abroad.

We're all going to suffer from Trump getting in.

Thoughts as the news came through;

1) Have they all gone insane?

2) Dollar will crash - watch the markets

3) Change = opportunity - going to have to be ready to grab it as and when it appears.

4) US is upto its eyeballs in Chinese debt, watch Chinese reaction.

But the popular votes are counted towards an overall reasult. State elections are held on a different day in different years. They don't follow the same cycles as the federal elections. Pretty much the same system they have in Germany.

Did you read the link? Electoral college has nothing to do with state elections. The only problem with the electoral college is the winner take all states. NE is not in that category.

Look at it as similar to the House and Senate. Each state gets 2 senators, each state gets house reps based on population. Senators for CA = 2, NE = 2.
House Reps for CA = 53, NE = 3. It works the same for the electoral college.

The difference is that while the house and the senate work together balancing one another's power, voters do little more than express our preference which the electoral college is not bound to respect. I mean, they didn't even wait for all the votes to come in before declaring Trump as winner. So the idea that the electoral college gives a voice to people in small states is just another part of the bigger illusion.

We will have to agree to disagree.
