Well, I wasn't attracted to Trudeau for his mind anyhow . . .

White 'Murica is celebrating too.

It's so goddam weird.

As if the power of freedom, liberty, Jesus, and pure motherfuckin' USA-ness killed him rather than the normal process of the failure of cell replacement.

And there's Trump, so statesmanlike and measured in his choice of words; eloquent and as thoughtful as one could dream of for a man of such esteem: "Fidel Castro is Dead!"

I swear to goddamn Buddha, half of American failed 8th grade back in 1957 and hasn't made it to 9th grade yet.

Think about it. The US has been trying to assassinate Castro for 50 years. If he’d been the villain they painted him to be somebody close to him would have betrayed him. You can’t win loyalty with an iron fist. Not the kind of loyalty that allows you to defy the west for half a century.

Castro drove the gamblers and graft out of Cuba. So of course the US is pissed that he died of old age rather than at their hands. By buying the propaganda, you miss the main message of his life is that the west can be defied.

That's your defense? People close to him liked him? People close to him were loyal to him? Yeah, surely you couldn't say that about any other brutal dictator figure in history...

Do you know how many innocent deaths are attributed to the Castro regime? Or what sort of human rights atrocities went on in Castro's UMAP labor camps? Or how stifled the Cuban population's rights were? Even if you attempt to excuse those things, he was still an awful leader. Cuba's communist economy simply did not function. It was awful and the only way it kept itself afloat was because the USSR was funneling millions into the regime. When the Soviets fell, a significant portion of the population was starved or malnourished.

Am I supposed to ignore all that and respect him because he stuck it to the U.S.?

WILL YA' LL STOP!!

Answer me this: If Castro had been so evil, why after half century of trying to kill him couldn't the US find one person in Cuba who would betray him?

Yes he threw the racketeers out of Cuba, and I'm sure they didn't go voluntarily. Do you believe all the bullcrap about spreading democracy the uS puts out? You don't think they maybe have a reason to vilify a socialist guy with the balls to say hell no we not paying no debt and to tell other third world countries they don't have to pay the west for being independent. I just can't wrap my mind around the idea that you think such a man is evil.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.

Holy crap. I am as liberal as they come economically speaking but NO. CASTRO giving free health care and free higher education DID NOT make him a hero or a nice guy. There is no such thing as a kind dictator.

That would be like Ness busting Capone only to take a criminals money for himself. That is what the CASTRO family did and what his brother still does. That is not change, not change one bit.

Whenever someone praises dictators it always amazes me because it sounds like someone who has never lived under them or doesn't know that many who escaped them.

I have seen some here praise Napoleon too. I simply fail to see why it has to be an either/or proposition. NO we don't need to value  assholes who oppress the press, YES we should value free health care and education. BUT NO we don't have to value dictators like CASTRO to have that.

I'd suggest you go live there and try to say even some of the things you say here. Even if you love the idea of free health care and free higher education, it would be a mistake to assume communist CUBA would not come after you, a website like this IS BANNED completely there.

CASTRO is a dictator, just because someone feeds you doesn't make them moral, it just means they feed you.

And Just like Stalin had a religious education, Castro also was educated by religious people. And it is also a myth that under the USSR or CUBA that religion was oppressed completely. No, religion never left either state. Stalin's Russia and Putin's Russia now were/are still a majority Russian Orthodox Christianity. Religion also never left Cuba not even under Castro, they have a majority of Catholics. All they did was silence dissent, not those who whom were party loyalists.
