That really is all that is needed for a good starting point. Morality is really all about well being.

We all live in the same physical universe, with the same physical laws, with the same (more or less) brains and bodies.

I know for myself, I prefer life over death, health over disease, food over hunger, comfort over torture, freedom over slavery, etc.

From this, is is very easy to extrapolate, that the vast majority of my fellow humans, want the same.

What is needed to be moral, is to make as many decisions as possible that will, either; not harm the well being of others, help the well being of others, or be neutral to the well being of others.

In other words, all one has to do, is ask slaves if, their situation is good or bad for their well being.

That is a true moral system, that leads to a constantly improving morality. Religions do not have moral systems, they have edicts.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Technically, one could extrapolate that those who prefer greed are immoral, for the money they needlessly hoard could be used to better society overall.

He fooled me. lol.

Quite common among both Christians and rational people Godless heathen trash (aside, thanks to the forum designers for including the cross-out feature; I've made great use of it).

Seriously, and out of character, I'm actually not trying to fool or troll anyone. I post in the spirit of satire. As I'm fond of saying, it amazes me that anyone EVER believed any of this crap, let alone in today's era. It can sometimes be cathartic and there's nothing like schooling a "moderate Christian" on what their own damn book says, quoting chapter and verse, concluding with calling them a "dumb ass phony Christian".

That was me. It's been a while, I think before you were posting here. I was very active on this forum even being one of the mods. Then I got hit with depression hard and lost interest in a lot of my activities, including internet posting. I'm still climbing out of that pit, to be honest, and I have some good days and bad.

The forum rules require that you only have one account, for understandable reasons. A dishonest debate tactic is to have multiple accounts and use them to validate one another, giving the illusion that your point of view enjoys more support. They let me keep both accounts for a while, since I was never posting on the same thread with both of the two monikers and the two never referenced each other (and certainly would never agree). Coming back, I've decided to keep just this one.

Well, good luck to you. I've dealt with depression as part of schizo-affective disorder. I usually just say schizophrenia out of force of habit as that was my dx for many years.

Well, that wasn't far off from many Christians I had been in contact with. One guy (now, ex work colleague) once told me that my choice is, I either worship God (i.e. in his own interpretation, Orthodox) or I worship Satan - in that "there's no neutrality in religion" philosophy. I told him back "Okay, I'd go with Satan then." He didn't see that coming.

Not to mention that I used to visit a psychotherapist, burdened by my frustrations and all kinds of painful emotions regarding my Christian upbringing, past experiences, religious family, etc. As I was relieving myself of my anger against religion and religious beliefs, she was defending her religion (Christianity). She once recommended me a book by C.S.Lewis... I read in it stuff like why atheists deserve to go to hell, about holy people stepping amid dinosaurs and how the tears of angels could not be anything else than love in liquid form. That's when I stopped going to her.

Also, you have heard about Chechnya, right? About the homosexuals being tortured and killed. I posted some news regarding this topic on some fb groups (not christian related, but people of my country). Answers... well, some liked with laughter, a woman said "I wished I lived in Chechnya.", a man said, "Good, they should be put against the wall and shot dead!", while I had a discussion with a ~30 years old guy in which he said that "homosexuals should be killed", I said "what if the others decided that you should be killed?" He answered, "What, are you gay? =)))))))" To him, you had to be homosexual in order to care for the life of a homosexual. And worst of all, it's not only religious people who feel like that. It's culture. And homosexuality is a taboo. Anyway, the holy Orthodox Church can only feel proud with people shouting on the streets "We want normal children, not homosexuals!"

Damned fanatics. As about moderate christians, you never see them on the streets with banners like "Christians fighting for the civil rights of gay people." They know either to pose the victim or to take a defensive position (of their smeared religion).

Interesting to see that I'm not the only one struggling with depression. Every time I'm depressed I'm thinking like "Wouldn't it be nice if I stopped living, if everything just ended?" When I'm deep depressed I'm having moments imagining myself hanging by a rope. It feels like relief. But I haven't tried anything in the past 10 years, so I don't worry that I might do it one day.

Satire is a sin in the eyes of the lord...

Ephesians 5:4 "Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting."

I have reported your heresy and wrongdoing to Pastor Ezekiel Bathfire, who no doubt will condemn your soul to eternal torment, which is only right, and just.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

I'm not sure if this was the depression or something else, but I couldn't stop thinking about negative things, like for long periods of time.
