http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jul
Heres an article on wikipedia about how we swedes and others in the nordic region celebrate what we call Jul (Yule in english). Slighlty diffrent from Christmas, specillay since we celebrate the whole thing on 24th of december. Not becuase we celbrate the birth of jesus (some maybe do) but we do it becuase its a tradtion and that we like to give gifts to eachother.
It has more to about waht we call Jultomte (Yuletomte) that´s quite similar to Santa Claus. but he is not originating from a sain, instead is he more mixture of old folktales about tomtes and Oden (Odin).
You can read more in the article.
Anyway how does other celebrate this time of the year? I think there are some from australia here, then christmas must be quite diffrent there. There no snow!
