An oxymoron after about 1920. An adult who thinks echoing smarter kids in the second grade makes him an intellectual is a moron indeed.

Obviously, I judge on a generous curve.

Really? Wow I'm not doing a good job with my options. You can just say it if you want, but i'm not forcing you to, it's supposed to by anonymous after all.

It's ok. :Smile

To be fair to you, mine isn't an official political party.

Against abortion, against the death penalty, for accessible health care and basic needs for the poor/disabled/single moms, for reasonable gun laws. I don't like political correctness or affirmative action. Drugs and prostitution should be legalized but discouraged, and teens should be educated against those things in schools. ...That's just to cover a few of the hot topics right now.

Basically, as much freedom as possible while still keeping respect for all human life as the first priority always. I call it "pro life libertarian."
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I think people are mistaking party with ideology. It's less specific issues and more a broad expectation of government's role in our society. Look at how many ideologies there are on the political compass:

Odds are VERY STRONG you fit one of those. I think most people are centrist (moderate, as the poll puts it) I'm Social Democracy

When I was on Newspeak Dictionary, i figured out that "Democratic Socialist" fit my political leanings better than any other ideology. I suspect some of my views have changed a bit over the years, but I doubt it's that radical.

Although it seems Aegon's little square seems to point me more towards Libertarian Socialism or Social Democracy. And since libertarian socialism seems too tied to anarchy (which I do not consider a viable philosophy at all), I'd go with Social Democracy. Then again, I already voted DemSoc. Of course, if I'm wrong on where each quote-line ends and begins, I'm probably back into Democratic Socialism.

"A Generous Welfare Societ/safety Net is generally desirable."
"People should generally be allowed to do what they want."

Sound more like SocDem policies, Democratic Socialists are socialists who want to achieve socialism(and in turn, communism) by means of democracy.

RE: Anonymous Poll on political ideology
I'm not very enthusiastic about politics.

In my humble opinion it seems to me that to some extent, whatever government a group of people are under, everyone is to some extent relying on the good intentions of powerful people.

Whether those people are the government in a completely communist government controlled society, or if it's rich well armed people in a free market society with anarchy.

Talking about those two extreme sides, I've noticed a similarity between the two in that they both seem to claim that the true form of their government has never been tried and tested and if we could get to the point of trying the true form of government, that would be for the best.

Communists will say that communism is only truly in place when the government isn't corrupt and resources are pooled properly by the government.

Free market anarchists will say there's never been a country without a government that had a good form of capitalism in place with non aggression principles.

This seems like an excuse to me really.  Similar to how religions claim if only everyone would believe as they do everything would be great.  I think a part of how good a system works is how corruptible is it and will people follow the rules and what will happen if they decide not to.
Otherwise I could just start a Bill and Ted form of government, when it goes wrong I'll just claim it's because not everyone was being excellent to one another.

Whichever of the two systems that's in power, how "good" the system works might depend on things like the morality of the people in control, how were they raised? Are they psychopaths? Criminals? How good is the technology and resources under their control?

If there's an island with low technology, poor resources, criminal psychopaths for leaders, it won't matter if those leaders call themselves the government or free market entrepreneurs.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Isn't communism state-less? Which means by definition a communist 'goverment' can't exist? I dunno much about it personally.
