I actually wasn't referring to atheist behavior on the boards. Kernel incorrectly inferred that. I was referring to the miserable personal lives that so many of you have.

Immature and mature people exist in all groups. I think saying all theists or all atheists are immature, is immature.

I thought the same thing.

Though I think in this case it's allowed because Matilda actually forms an argument to back up her wildly generalized claim, which encourages discussion rather than being made purely for provocation purposes.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I said many, not every. Didn't someone recently say goodbye for awhile as she'd be living out of her car soon? Or more commonly threads regarding depression and other mental illness have historically had a lot of participants. And then there's Brian...

And the regular threads in praise of porn and masturbation...

I'm not sure you can call that an argument and I don't think they are even generalizations. She just made shit up--sentence after sentence. Notice how the kudos came? The atheists here don't police their own when it comes to stupidity. I think its because they no longer recognize it. Talk about abdicating critical thinking!

Thanks for your clarification, and please excuse my incorrect inference. Is it reasonable to say that it is ultimately up to the particular individual to determine whether he or she has a miserable or happy personal life? Just as I easily misunderstood your post, perhaps the misery that some people are experiencing  is just the normal baggage that comes with being human, and overall, they have their source of happiness, fulfillment, and meaning that drives them to live and be productive in their own way.

I assume one of the mods will jump in here and clarify particularly why/how this thread doesn't violate the discussion vs provocation rule. In the mean time, id rather just wait for that than make any conclusions or wrong assumptions about mod bias. They've never not been objective.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that someone with depression isn't happy...

Your point about how theists don't feel responsible for their actions because they believe in God makes no sense to me.
