My name's Lou, I'm from the UK and I'm 22. I was raised in a secular home (although I have extended family of all faiths) and have been an Atheist as long as I can remember. And it's not that I haven't questioned it, I have as a child and as an adolescent, but I do consider myself lucky that I wasn't raised under any specific dogma and was encouraged from a young age to make up my own mind.

I'm also an archaeologist, which ties in nicely. In fact, I've excavated sites that are far older than the Bible says Earth is! Fascinating eh! Eventually when I've finished all my training, I'd like to go into the Bioarchaeology or Forensic Anthropology field. I love Ancient DNA and bones...I don't know if that's creepy or not :-P.

Anyways, I'll take a look around...nice to meet you.

Lou

RE: Hello Hello
I'm a geologist, but studied anthropology for four years before switching to geo. Good to see that we have similar interests. Welcome.

Are you sure you know what the Bible says about how old the earth is?

His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Theophilus,

While it is true that the bible does not exactly say how old the earth is, from my reading of it, the earth's age according to it is quite young and nowhere near the age estimated by scientists which is 4.6 billion years or so.

Also Jesus himself talked about humans being present at the "beginning of creation". Hence ironically as an "Strong Atheist" I side with the Young Earth Creationists when it comes to what the bible tells about the age of the earth being quite young. Mind you I don't consider it to be accurate history of the earth of a book written by Iron Age people who believed the the earth was flat, that sky was a dome held up by mountains and the stars as windows on that dome

I agree that the Bible says the earth is much younger than scientists say it is, but it could also be much older than the 6,000 years that many Bible believers think it is. In my post I pointed out some things in the Bible that they often overlook.
