It's not a fair fight if you have a gun in your hand. Instead of shooting the animal, wrestle it with your bare hands and then I'll be impressed. I don't get these people who are like: "look at how manly I am, I shot X animal". Next time don't be a pussy and use your bare hands.
The Romans used to eat giraffes in Pompei.  Think about the logistics of getting one for dinner.

I'd like to see you try and take a Lion with a spear.

In other words, if Tizheruk thinks that spears are unsportsmanlike, i'd like to see him try.

Killing lions with pointy sticks is a pretty even match. However, I've seen prides of lions get up and trot off when Masai were coming their way. They've learned.

As for the giraffe dinners in Pompeii, they were usually killed in the circuses, pitted against big cats or wolves or hungry urchins.

Some days I hope there's a God. But it's not the one anyone's expecting. And they see these homophobes, bigots, and big trophy hunters (yeah, I feel pretty comforrtable lumping them together) and they're like: "You're an asshole. Please enjoy eternity as a slave in the service of those you mistreated in life."

Quote:I haven't seen anything that would indicate that it was poaching or illegal. I also don't know what or if any restrictions are place on hunting giraffe in that area.  I would agree, that this would be another matter if she acted unlawfully.  I do think that it is good, that she gave the meat to the local people to help them.  You read some stories, where people kill the giraffe, and just take the tail leaving the carcass behind.  This also makes me question if they are doing so illegally (although I suppose that they could claim they where feeding the local wildlife).   I don't think that her individual motives matter, although I think that it can be unhealthy if one has an attitude of killing or causing suffering indiscriminately.
Giving the meat means nothing it sounds like a cover to excuse the act.

I have seen some chatter in the internet where animals have been culled, in Africa. Elephants and rhinos are to be culled because of over reproduction and/or drought. In these cases, the kill is made so that the meat is made available to the locals. Most sites I've visited are hunting safari sponsors. I guess if some elephants are to be killed, one may as well invite a Great White Hunter to count coup on them while feeding the locals. They must feel really proud of themselves. Of course, the license fees for the kill(s) will fill the necessary coffers. Excuse me if I am a bit skeptical about this.

Then skepticism is well founded

As far as I'm concerned, any necessary destruction of life is a tragedy. Yes, I do recognize that there may be some such necessity.

I personally, have no use for anyone who would take pleasure in such a thing. I regard such a person as a defective unit and unworthy of any rights.

If you have no empathy for another creature, what worthiness of empathy do you deserve?

I would never impose death on another unless I knew or could reasonably infer that that death would prevent the death of innocents. But evil people should be locked-up forever. Not as revenge but in making sure they never do evil on another again.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
