"Losing virginity" - what is being lost here?

RE: "Losing virginity" - what is being lost here?
Why would you want to marry a virgin? A woman who knows what she is doing in bed (or on the floor or kitchen table) is better!
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

Virginity is a condition that is easily cured.

As Carlin said: Forget about 72 virgins! Give me 72 whores that know what they are doing!

Echoing Mathilda, the marketability of what was essentially seen as a waste byproduct in the manufacturing of sons.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

For some woman in some parts of the world, they could be put to death, so that "kit" is life to them.

I thought most women who aren't virginal know the old chicken blood trick ??
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Intact hymens are almost as precious to the lord thy god as a string of severed phillistine foreskins.

What exactly has been "lost"? Shouldn't that be an achievement like every other time we begin a new phase in our lives like starting new job, new school, buying new car etc. And yet exploration of one's sexuality, the beginning of one's sexual life, an almost universally cherished feature of human existence, registered as a "loss".

Or "Losing innocence" - How does one become less innocent after experiencing a sexual connection for the first time?

Innocence, purity, blah, blah, blah . . .

In the old days, it was about the woman's value to her father. A daughter without the standard hymen feature had to be sold off at a considerable markdown -- assuming you could find someone willing to take her off your hands.

These days, I suppose the 'advantage' is that a bride's virginity will ensure that there will be no embarrassing, negative comparisons with previous lovers, who didn't need a map and Sherpas to find her clitoris.

I wonder what the exchange rate used to be.

“Throw in a fatted calf with those foreskins and you’ve got a deal!”
