Declawing Cats
RE: Declawing Cats
I hate to tell anyone reading this here, but there are dog and cat owners that pay to stub the tale. There are dog owners that pay to trim the ears. The only time I would consider that cruel, just like spaying or neutering would be if they didn't put the pet under.

Declawing a cat is no different to me than spaying or neutering a cat or dog. I would consider it cruel if you didn't put them under. I would consider it cruel if you had an outdoor cat and declawed them. Outdoor cats need their claws. Indoor cats do not. Just like indoor cats don't need their penises or vaginas.

You didn't respond...you said your cat will never get out...but he did, didn't he?

RE: Declawing Cats
Long ago, when I worked at a mom and pop radio station in Central Va, my station manager asked me to feed her cat while she was on vacation. Her cat was an outdoor cat. So we go over there after she had left and put him inside. We pulled him out of a closet shelf, and his leg was swollen. He had his claws, and he was an outdoor cat. But we didn't wait to ask her to take it to the vet. We did so, and we paid for the bill. That cat's claws did not prevent it from getting an infection from a fight with another animal, which is why I keep mine indoors.

Answer what perennial contrarian?

No I am not sorry that I got my cat declawed.

Otherwise all cat and dog owners should not have nuts and vaginas cut out.

It is bullshit to claim that declawing has discomfort after surgery but spaying and neutering don't.

Declawing has to do with if you have an outdoor cat vs an always indoor cat. But don't hand me any bullshit that a cat wont feel discomfort after the surgery of being spayed or neutered.

Sorry if it bothers you that my cat is happy and doesn't remember shit about his claws or balls being removed. But trust me, he is doing just fine.

Have you missed everything said in this thread about the health problems associated with declawing, vs the health benefits associated with neutering?

Are you aware that neutering/spaying doesn't involve the loss of the penis or vagina?

You claim your cat cannot get hit by a car.  That your cat is an indoor cat.  Didn't your cat escape during the great hurricane debacle?

Did your cat get out?  Did you lose him for a time?

It's pretty simple...even for you.

Declawing is the removal of part of the toe...not just the claw.

Vaginas aren't removed during spaying nor is the penis removed during a neutering.

I am not going to condemn you for declawing your cat, but I feel the need to comment on this: Declawing is a painful procedure and leads to behavioral issues in some cats afterward. Here's a non-inflammatory, factual reference about the procedure. https://www.avma.org/KB/Resources/Litera...g_bgnd.pdf

Also, being a pedant, I will point out that cat spays do not involve removal of the vagina. Just the uterus and ovaries, and neutering isn't removal of the penis, just the testicles.

My cat is doing fine.

The "health problems" only have to do with if you declaw an outdoor cat. And even if you don't declaw, there is far more CANCER risk to not spaying our neutering.

Spaying and neutering involves cutting off the path of a sperm and egg meeting DUMBASS. And no, my cat does not have balls so what the fuck are you talking about? They didn't just tie his tubes, he has no nuts.
