Yup and Dmitry and his right-wing friends complain it's "unregulated immigration" and are happy to stop it.

That's one of the reasons, yeah, because climate refugees are great boogeymen for stirring up nativist ire - and you can take that to the bank, literally.

Really, though, the main reason is that we don't want to stop, and it really doesn't matter to us what the boat people from nothereistan are dealing with.  Plenty of us are positively relieved..that it's them, and not us, apparently, and for now I guess?

And I don’t know about Alaska. But there are several places in Siberia reaching 90 even 100 degrees Fahrenheit (Which has never been seen since the 1930’s).

This is starting wild fires that can turn into “zombie fires” in the winter. Meaning that the fires keep burning underground and then restart in the summer. Many buildings are collapsing because the permafrost is melting under concrete structures and making them unstable.

+ Permafrost melting causes more CO2 to be released into the atmosphere. People are discovering frozen mammoth skeletons + frozen worms (that are brought back to life) in this melting underground ice.

So I don’t know about Alaska. But in the coming decades, mosquitos might eat you alive if are planning to settle in Siberia Smile

/ Nobody really knows who will migrate where when thinks become rough for us. Chances are, people will start migrating out of life. I am saying this because economic migration toward the North America and/or Europe is not the same thing. These are mostly young male adults who have no qualification or whatsoever who are leaving their countries with the prospect of a better life elsewhere and are mostly ending up being disappointed as soon as they reach their destination.

I don’t even think these migration routes will even continue to exist when things will start to become ugly. If you look at the geography of heat domes and wildfires it is even possible that we start moving to places like Central Africa or South America where there is less drought and more abundant water sources.

This guess is based on the German + European water ways that had reached record lows in 2022 making them impossible to navigate for river transportation companies. With the disappearance of Alpine Glaciers etc. we don’t really know who is going to get hit first and at what level.

So this is like SRM (sun blocking technologies). No one knows for sure the degree and scale of the impact so everyone is against it. (https://www.euronews.com/green/2023/07/0...into-space).

In a market economy perspective, the easiest is to leave coal, oil and gas in the same place where it has been in the last few millions of years Smile

The fact that such temps have been seen before in Siberia just shows that the weather will do what it wants.

True in spirit, but false in one crucial aspect. It doesn't want anything, and it's entirely responsive. Subtropical temperatures at the poles have always been an effect of something, not an issue of weather doing what it wants. Just like today. It doesn't want to get hotter, and wouldn't get colder even if it did want things and one of those things was to be cold. It's going to keep getting hotter even if we stop doing every foolish thing that we're currently doing. The new normal is something we haven't seen yet, and is something that will persist for some time after we pull our heads out of our asses. Wants don't come into it at any point.

Obvs, I'm just a nerd for propositions we use to express a general truth that employ exclusively false assertions.

Entire history of influential Homo sapiens population movements from 60,000 years ago to the 20th century can be said to be a history of Climate migration.

Yes but that was in a time in which crocodiles lived in Antarctica. And there were just a few thousand nomadic tribes of humans in that era. Their chances of survival where thus greater than 8 Billion humans who rely entirely on Mechanized agriculture and all the wonders of modern technology.

When the weather pattern changed some 120,000 years ago, all that our ancestors did was to follow the herds of animals and keep living on these resources. We can’t really do that, so if that happens, it would be right to assume that our population will start to shrink and that we will end up with a much reduced number of individuals who will have adopted a very different lifestyle perhaps with some pockets of civilization left here and there but we are almost sure that even these pockets of civilization will not have anything to do with the world as we know it Smile
