Fried egg and cheese on toast, not a struggle.

Baked bluefin cod on rice with lemon garlic sauce, served with roasted tomato compote and grilled romano beans. Also not a struggle.

I haven't eaten fish since I ate a fish that had just been eating me. Mekong catfish. I didn't know noodling was a thing back then, I was just hungry.

^I doubt very much it was eating you.

It was debriding a wound on the back of my right leg. I felt it pulling flesh off my body. That will do for eating until we find something more graphic.

Then it wasn’t a Mekong catfish.

Why not? I'm curious. If it wasn't what river was I in in 1972? The world wonders.

Mekong catfish have no teeth and don’t eat meat (they live almost exclusively on algae). It would have seen your wound as a food source.

I don’t doubt that your story is true, but it was some other kind of fish.

That was my fourth day in the river. I'd started with 100 ampoules of morphine (thank you, HM3 Ho) but I don't know how many I'd done by that time. It could have been a manatee and I'd have thought it was a catfish by then.
