KIA-BNR: Killed In Action; Body Not Recovered. My mother had two of those framed and hanging in her livingroom when I arrived back in the States. (I called her from the PI to tell her I was heading east.) I'm MUCH harder to kill than that, just ask my lunatic father.

Picking a nit: a lot of the above are not acronyms, but ‘initialisms’, which are a set of letters that don’t form a pronounceable word.
