getting paid double is the best thing about the holidays I guess, but I still wish holidays were of something more significant instead of fairy tales.

I don't think you will ever be able to reason with the masses, but why not make it significant for yourself? After all, that's what the Christians did themselves in the first place Wink
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

A lot of holidays are significant. Just research whatever holiday pisses you off the most, bet you'll be surprised.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Probably the best thing about Christianity is some of the songs. Some of them are fucking awful, mind you, but some are great. At Chrimbo I particularly enjoy Once In Royal David's City and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Brilliant tunes.

I didn't think of that vamp when I signed up, I just came up with it on the spot, although I do love MGS.

I also hate laws or social behavior "standards" founded by religion but are now standard & aren't associated with religion (like "normal relationships" or victimless crimes), countries (like Israel or Saudi Arabia), Holidays (like Christmas, Hanikah, or Eid being official days off), weekends (they were the days of worship, but now are mainstream days off).

I'm newly atheist by the way, I started being skeptic around four years ago (when I graduated from high school), but after further research, I became an atheist around 6 months ago.

does anybody else feel the same way?

I don't hate anything. Hate erodes a persons spirit from the inside out. And to hate those things founded by religion, when the majority of the world population professes an allegiance to some form of religion, is overwhelming. You're simply outnumbered.
If you venture abroad to cultures wherein their faith /religion/spirituality is prominent in their architecture, you'll hate before you see the magnificent man made works of art.

If you hate the religious origins in place anywhere in the world, including your home country, you give mythology power to affect your well being.
Let it go. Live your truth and take the rest as symbols people need to feel comforted by the fable they're not alone in this world. Something you can handle as a skeptic, or atheist, without issue.
Be stronger than the fiction.

maybe hate was a strong word, but I dislike any of those religious traditions or norms.
some of those things actually have a negative impact on our society, Saudi Arabia & Israel have disgusting laws (like killing or deporting anybody that abandons Islam in SA, is this the 5th century?).
then there's Victimless Crimes, or state controlled relationships (like marriage), those were all religious traditions adopted by the law, so its not all blind hate.

Yes and yet, those obscene violent acts attributed to religious edicts, aren't a product of religion itself. They're a product of immoral violent sadistic reprehensible cur who sadistically assault those in their charge, using the straw man of religious edict handed down by a mythic non-human creature through the pronouncements of his elect mortal prophet.
It's sadistic anomalistic solipsism and in this regard it's deemed religious edict. However, it's present also in politics and classism, sexism, any bigotry as there's always deemed some source, some cause, some "authority" that's responsible for the model to be practiced as such.

It's why blacks and all races of people to this day are/were owned as slaves, women were considered second class citizens with no right save to be property of a man, where to this day it is argued women have no right to be in control of their own reproductive organs or choice in that regard, it's what argues gays are Satanic and aberrant (Michele Bachmann citing her faith as cause to be a bigot), it's what manifests class struggles amid a community of people in a nation and relegates the haves' and the have not to their station, etc...
Religion is the enslavement of the mind that first accepts the chains are requisite to preserve the myth that describes a spirit. Own those two things based solely on the faith they exist by word alone, and the body doesn't stand a chance. Nor does secular policies that govern the flesh to it's course of action or punishment for deviating from compliance thereto.

Religion is a cancer. Atheism, is the cure.
