Another Atheists Dilemma

RE: Another Atheists Dilemma
My wife(she is catholic) and I reached a consensus about that when we'll have kids: we will not christen them, if they want to do so later, they can. Simple.

It is only really the parents who should have any say in it, man.
So it should be entirely you and yuor girlfriend's decision.

But, if you do go ahead with it, make sure you wear your finest satan outfit.

Ah that's a tough call. I agree it's completely up to just you and your girlfriend... I can see both sides. I think if it's just this one thing then go along with the christening just to appease her dad... but, I would make sure to mention it's a one time thing and you don't plan on weekly church services!!!

With my grandparents church you either have to attend mass regularly, or make a large donation to the church. My grandparents and I agreed that if I attended church every Sunday for a couple of months, so the priest would agree to do it, they would give the donation to me. So I did, and they were baptized, and my grandparents were happy, and I put the money in a trust for my children's college educations.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my little boggle here and write back. It's refreshing to take in everything everybody wrote here and I think it will help me in coming to a decision about what I want to do going forward. Many thanks once again. Smile

No worries mate.

As always it is your choice as to what you will do. Thumb up

He can expect all sorts of things from your family, but it doesn't matter, because he hasn't got a say in the matter. This is between you and your girlfriend. If it really is that important to her, then do it. Many of us here got holy tap water sprinkled on our heads and we came out alright, I would dare say Wink
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
