World headed for irreversible climate change in five years, IEA warns

RE: World headed for irreversible climate change in five years, IEA warns
And how are you going to dispose of the rotting flesh? The contaminated goods? The entire area?

"Hm. We have too many people. Oh, I've a bright idea! Let's wax the lot!"

Some of you have the subtlety of a garbage truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant.

The green movement, or the ecology movement continues to have children, and are still leaving a huge footprint as compared to our ancestors.

So if you have children, calling for limits on population growth is disingenuous? Preposterous. Scale - you've no sense of.

And add more 'greenhouse' gases to the atmosphere?

I've always maintained that 99% of the total world population should be shot for sheer stupidity (starting with the lawyers and politicians) Big Grin

No Moros...I think BethK is just pointing out the hypocrisy of both sides. Which is basically my main point of angst.

All this crap by governments to "reduce green house gases" is just ...
1. Doing to little to late (as padraic has stated)
2. Doing diddly squat to ACTUALLY reducing CO2 via legislation as others
have queried
3. Ignores the pollution issue and goes no where to addressing that
4. Relies on 'revenge' factor towards Big Corporations to get the average
Joe Schmo on board
5. So that the average Joe Schmo can be taxed even more.

And agreed.... the planet SHOULD have done something about this Pollution issue long before this. There have been inroads into reducing emissions..right now (here) we are finding that the current Diesel motors have a much lower footprint and emissions than say the LNG powered heavy-vehicles.

Still can't understand why we (Australia) don't have a huge Solar Power plant in each state.... then again there would be all those involved in BAU electricity production out of work and begging off the government.

Yes Moros...the scale is HUGE

Disposing of dead bodies are not necessarily, human body provides the important nutrients for trees, plants, animals and ecosystem. All is one, one is all. The nature will take care of the entire area. However, the contaminated goods like radioactive waste, radioactive materials, biological weapon needs be disposed of.

You're a fucking moron if you think 'Nature will take care'. The BSE epidemic has shown, that even with all our technology, disposing of contaminated biowaste is difficult, slow and prone to reintroducing diseases back into the supply (recycling of feed is one such vector). Nature's ability to "take care" was briefly considered and disregarded as simply leaving heaps of rotting meat proved to be more noxious and dangerous (bacterial blooms, et al).

In 18th century, the human population was estimated about 978 million. To decrease the birth rate sounds impossible-

However... Biological weapon like chicken smallpox virus - Its fatality rate can be modified up to 99% - if administered the aftermath will be 1% human survivors [That's about 70k total human survivors of 7 billion.]

Inhumanly cruel but faster solution.

1% of 7 billion is 70 million.

I assumed Nature had ability to 'take care" of remaining pollution without 7 billion humans continuous-producing the pollutions - But hmm I'm not really educated as I thought. Thanks for remaining me, again.

Plus, my apologies if you are offended by my stupid comments like administering the deadly virus to reduce the population. - To be honest, I'm rather to devote resources to advance our technology to help Earth's environment. But I should have said that in first place.

RE: World headed for irreversible climate change in five years, IEA warns
We have long been increasing this planet's ability to support a human population well beyond carrying capacity. The issue is not of technology.

The issue is, has, and will always be politics.

The politics of the AIDS epidemic in Africa prevents these people from ridding themselves of a generational curse through condoms, aid and medical care.

The politics of starvation, sovereignty and ideology are orthogonal to our ability to halt famine in Africa -- corporate-motivated food 'dumping' has shown that finding and transporting food is not a problem. Nor is artificially inflating the cost of those goods when delivered to that market to prevent destroying the local economy or parceling out each piece such that it is a hassle to obtain the needed sustenance for another day out of the question.

However, the corporations providing food for 'food dumping' benefit from crashing the local economy of those they're trying to 'help' -- they can increase dependence on corporate food sources and simultaneously nuke any potential market into their very controlled oblivion.

So, all in all, you find different saboteurs riddled hither and yon. Even the ones who 'claim' to help often possess ulterior motive.

Without an intense focus on detecting and resolving conflict-of-interest, corrupt politicians, corporations and well meaning individuals will continue to waste money, resources and ultimately deal significant harm while dealing significant good.

And this is in a region where more harm is NOT needed.
