Iran brings down American drone by hacking
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-16098250

Quote:Iranian TV has broadcast footage of an advanced US drone aircraft that Tehran says it brought down using electronic methods to override its controls.

The BBC's James Reynolds watched the footage and said the fact that the drone appeared undamaged provided some evidence to support Tehran's version of events.

I don’t know why anyone would be surprised by this or seriously doubt that it could happen. There were reports on the news a few years back that someone over there was trying to hack into the command and telemetry links of our UAVs. Combine that with the availability of information like this on the web, and I’d say it was inevitable.

One might hope the military would use unique encryption schemes and provision for the drone to detect if it was being hacked, not hard to do, and utterly unbreakable with a one-time pad encryption scheme.

These drones are designed to self destruct on the slightest security violation.

To think that this was brought down intact states that our military-industrial complex is grossly overpaid and inept if they can't secure their own damn drone when they already knew that there was an active hacking risk.
