RE: The Paradox of Power....

As long as there is hardship and difficult times for human beings, the less critical, less analytical people will be drawn to religion. It's very likely that the catholic church will last a very long time because of this. However, if everything to do with christianity was destroyed, every bible, every church, every painting etc and all memory of it was wiped from human minds, it would never be rediscovered.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House
“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

Totally. Even 1-2 generations without indoctrination would probably be enough for it to fold.

You see the same pattern time and again. In hard times people cling to easy answers for things, easy hope and easy scape goats. The easy hope often being religion the easy scape goats them evil immigrants. And lets not forget in the pantheon of religions christianity is a johnny come lately.

If christianty or <placeholder for any bullshit woo> didn’t exist
1. No relationship with God [prove your imaginary friend exists, then prove I want a relationship with it]
2. No Path to heaven [Prove heaven exists]
3. Don’t have a true aim and purpose in life [Conning people is NOT a "true aim and purpose"]
4. No inner Peace and Joy [Prove it]
5. No Reconcillation [...with what?]
6. No Forgiveness of sins [...da fuck? what sin?]
7. No Freedom [...maybe not in korea or syria, but here we do have a healthy amount of freedom, your free speech would be a good example]
8. Don’t have a healthy body and mind [Why? My doc keeps me pretty healthy, as for mental health, I am not sure if you should speak on that]
9. No knowledge, understanding and wisdom about God and Life [Why the heck would I need knowledge and understanding of your imaginary friend?]

Quote:If christianty didn’t exist
That phrase is problematic from the start. ALL religions 'exist'. I think what you meant to say is 'If Christianity weren't true'. But let's carry on.
Quote:1. No relationship with God
Oh, don't be daft. People can have a relationship with God with or without Christianity. That's what imaginary friends are for.
Quote:2. No Path to heaven
Paths to heaven are no more difficult to find than are paths to The Emerald City, or to Hobbiton.
Quote:3. Don’t have a true aim and purpose in life
See, this is what makes all religionists (except possible Unitarians, Jedi and Wiccans) sanctimonious bigots. The notion that someone can't have a 'true aim and purpose in life' without adhering to your own idiotic and imaginary guidelines is anathema to both common sense and to the evidence at hand.
Quote:4. No inner Peace and Joy
See response to #3.
Quote:5. No Reconcillation
I've got about as much need and reason to be reconciled with God as I have with Father Christmas.
Quote:6. No Forgiveness of sins
I don't sin, so this one doesn't matter much.
Quote:7. No Freedom
When everything you do, everything you say, everything you think is done for the upfront purpose of currying favour with God, then you've got a funny definition of the word 'freedom'.
Quote:8. Don’t have a healthy body and mind
So...all Christians are healthy of body and mind? There are no Christians with cancer or dementia? Gosh, that'd be so great if it were true.
Quote:9. No knowledge, understanding and wisdom about God and Life
I know as much about God as anyone (nil = nil). I feel I know a good deal more about life than people who only read things they already agree with.

- Bullshit. This is one of the more annoying bits of theistic sayings. Life is what you make of it.

- Of what? To put a spin on an old Hitchslap; how dare a creator make us ill and command us to be well?
- ^
- Again; bullshit.
- Plenty of people outside of your faith bubble do.
- I think we can all do with less of your god thanks.

1. No relationship with God
No relationship with an imaginary being. God cannot even be defined. No evidence that a God can even exist because it would violate the laws of thermodynamics.
(September 26, 2015 at 7:04 am)Believer21u Wrote: 2. No Path to heaven
No evidence that heaven exists and no reason to believe it can or how it could because it would violate the laws of thermodynamics and is conceptually nonsensical.

Not true. Plenty of non-religious people have an aim and purpose in life. They get to choose what the purpose of their life is, not have it chosen for them.

Not true. Plenty of people who are not Christians have inner peace and joy.

Not true. No evidence that Christianity prevents any form of physical or mental illness. In fact the contrary American Psychological Association To Classify Belief in God As a Mental Illness

1. No relationship with God [prove your imaginary friend exists, then prove I want a relationship with it] (you prove why me he dosen’t exist first)
2. No Path to heaven [Prove heaven exists] (prove heaven dosen’t exist first)
3. Don’t have a true aim and purpose in life [Conning people is NOT a "true aim and purpose"] (You tell me of what’s you purpose and aim)
4. No inner Peace and Joy [Prove it] (proof is me,believers have a peace and joy in God)
5. No Reconcillation [...with what?] (you tell me can't be bothered to explain research it e.g google it)
6. No Forgiveness of sins [...da fuck? what sin?] (that's sin)
7. No Freedom [...maybe not in korea or syria, but here we do have a healthy amount of freedom, your free speech would be a good example] (freedom in God)
8. Don’t have a healthy body and mind [Why? My doc keeps me pretty healthy, as for mental health, I am not sure if you should speak on that] (Our health suffers when we worry or cover up our wrong actions. But once on the correct path in life there is often a physical spin-off. Our bodies can benefit from improved health, and even dramatic healing can occur when we put our faith in Him and use His authority over sickness.)
9. No knowledge, understanding and wisdom about God and Life [Why the heck would I need knowledge and understanding of your imaginary friend?]
(to not go to be tormented in hell).
