While he isn't an atheist exactly, he is somewhat close to it. In that he thought "God" didn't play an active role in human existence, and morality was determined from how human beings treat eachother and what is best for humanity.
Atheism isn't a fear based philosophy and doesn't use rewards of unreasonable happiness, or threats of agonizing torture to get people to do what it wants. Strangely enough.. I've found that places where atheism is dominant are also places where human flourishing and human dignity are the most.... promoted.
I don't think Soviet Russia, North Korea, or Maoist China count as "atheist" either. All three of them were heavily religious in that they were/are based on "emperor worship" of the dear leader. Moreover, Communism was the sacred text, that noone was allowed to deviate from without severe consequences. These nations hardly encouraged free thought or rational inquiry, and were anti-freedom the same way many organized religions are.
The more I read the history of the planet earth, the more.... inconsequential the human race appears. We are indeed the most advanced animal, and it's tough to think beings with our level of reasoning and intelligence could arise (even ever so gradually) from the primordial muck that has made up millions of years of evolution. Still though. We are oh so new as a species.
If God existed.. I suppose it woudl follow that it was part of his plan to create dinosaurs, and they were his beloved and cherished creation. Before he decided to murder them for not obeying him. From a Catholic persepctive, the extinction of the dinosuars makes a lot of sense. How often did the dinosuars recieve the blessed sacrament? Go to communion? Have a devotion to the Blessed Mother? Attend mass, or even thank God for the love and blessing he gave them?
The dinosaurs refused to do this did not do any of it not even once ! Luckily God made a new race where at least some of it's members woudl engage in the following .
I realize though.. if I fully deconvert, I woudl have to replace my relgion... not with another religion... but with something else. Nature abhors a vaccuum. Should I just replace my reading of the bible and religious books with fiction, philosophy, or study of biology/science?
Thoughts please!
I probably should just post another "do not feed the troll" meme. I may regret not doing so.
De-Conversion is rarely a conscious choice.
Read science. Discover Magazine is very accessible. Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Brian Cox (he recently explained to Tyson how a lightsaber could [theoretically] work) - have good articles and videos. Brian Greene is brilliant, and even has an online course in theoretical physics. Go for it.

You know how I feel about the word "fuck right? . So... incredibly rude....
Do you feel like the word "fuck" is a fucking bad word and every time you read the word "fuck" it fucking hurts your fucking feelings?
Do you also feel bad about "fucking", "fucker", "fucked", "motherfucking", "motherfucker" and "motherfucked" or is it only "fuck"?
Because I get the feeling it's not just "fuck" but also longer words containing "fuck".
In fact I get the fucking feeling that you dislike all swearing and not just saying the word "fuck". Or... seeing others say the word "fuck" all the fucking time. I mean, I don't mean to say "fuck" so much but how the fuck am I supposed to fucking talk about how you don't like the fucking word "fuck" without my mentioning it? And by "it" I mean "fuck" and by "fuck" I mean the word "fuck" of course. I don't mean the act of fucking. I mean the word. The word "fuck" that refers to either the act of "fucking" or it has a more figurative fucking meaning. For fuck's sake I think even a fucking troll like you knows what the fuck I mean, for fuck's sake. Oh, I already said "for fuck's sake." Fuck. Oh well. Fuck it.

Oh, I don't know, that could be a real challenge. I mean what could make for a more wholesome and fulfilling read than the most evil book ever written?

P.P.S. Oh... I fucking did.
Damn. My poor virgin eyes, lol.
To OP. I found a lecturer on youtube called Leonard Susskind, and I think it's just his lectures from Stanford. His black hole lecture and how that ties in with the holographic principle was really good and is pretty much my new 'faith' now. Believing in stuff like that is so much more satisfying than stupid simple bible stories.

There are thousands of gods, how do we know which on/s are real? How do we even know if god/s exist?
Climb out of the window and look back at your religion, what do you see? Look at every other religion, what are they up to?
Stop worrying, stop fearing and start enjoying your life.

Oh, so we've reached the point where you're going to stop pretending so that you can start posting as yourself? This is a cover for that, no?
Guys, if there is the remotest chance there is a shred of sincerity here, I think we ought to treat him a bit nicer. Yes, I want him in the club. People can be real jerks when going through a crisis of faith, because it can be a painful experience. That doesn't mean we should all be jerks back.
I'd like to offer him a helping hand. If he just keeps trolling, then yeah, ignore him, but this post looks more like a confused cry for help if you ask me.
