Who me?

Listen, at the end of the day, if the Scots want to vote for their independance, regardless of what happens to brexit, then again, my opinion is that it should be granted.

It is best to leave that opinion to born and bred scots. If they want their independance, then they have that right.

You're talking to one.

What reason do you have to think that? Scotland has a similar population to Finland, Norway, Denmark and Ireland (5 million). It also has an area of land (80,077 km²) more than or comparable to Denmark (42,925 km²) and Ireland (84,421 km²). No one ever says those countries can't survive alone. Iceland has a fraction of the population and hardly any more land. Scotland has plenty of natural resources (oil, fish, forestry, land, sea and wind energy). It has an international banking sector that could take over from London by remaining in the EU. It has world class universities. A global whisky export and lots of tech companies.

I see no reason for this unsubstantiated and unexplained belief that Scotland is too small to go it alone.  Maybe it's the BBC weather map that slants Britain to make Scotland look smaller. Just to remind you of perception vs actual size:

... and everyone living in Scotland, but not including people currently living outside of Scotland. I would have voted in the independence referendum but I was living in Germany at the time. But I was OK with that. It is the people that make up a country and its culture. You don't have to be born in Scotland to belong there. You just have to be there.

LOL, no, Bella, actually.  I'm with you on that one. Bellas become infamous on the boards for a "UK because self determination, lol fuck scotland" stance since Brexit. Nominally scottish too...been wondering about that, actually. Kind of a riddle...to me.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I would use a "no true scotsman", but I shall avoid..... Tongue I really meant to say those who were born in Scotland or those who have set up camp elsewhere in other countries i.e. to vote by proxy.

In Mel Gibsons voice,

"They'll never take our freedom."

In Boris Johnsons voice:

"We're fucking giving it to you." Stop complaining.

I'm assuming that her parents are Tory voters. Possibly even from the south of England originally. I used to be a Tory voter at her age because I was raised in a Tory voting Daily Mail reading household on the south coast of England. The parent's political views are normally the biggest influence on how people vote. Even today I still can't bring myself to vote Labour. And we all know on this forum how strong childhood conditioning can be. It's not just religion.

It takes a concerted effort to challenge your own conditioning and to question your own assumptions. Propaganda works for a reason.

Indeed, Scotland could be a major player in selling it trees and take the strain of the rainforests...... Tongue
