I don't know how anyone could seriously think a person would choose to remain depressed if there was such a simple solution. You might as well tell an amputee to "just grow another arm".
This. I have depression and it's not that easy at all. A good attitude may help at times, but it doesn't defeat depression for good. It always comes back to give you a swift kick in the ribs again later on. Actually, someone telling me to "just get over it" just makes it worse. Anyone who actually has depression instead of just sadness would realize how bad that sounded.
I'm sorry to hear you have it too
And I'm sad to hear you are mainly having to deal with people who don't even try to understand.

Look, I don't care if you disagree. I'm allowed to have my opinion and post about it.
I think depression has a lot to do with one's own choices. If you disagree, that's great, but if you're going to tell me I don't get it because I don't have it then I'll tell you you're just a drama queen who is seeking sympathy by pretending to suffer from depression.

Yes, you are allowed to speak. And others are allowed to criticize. Nobody is censoring your opinion here. We are disagreeing with it and showing you why it's so wrong.
Make any choices you want with your life, but please take our word for it when we tell you that your method is like nails on a chalkboard to us. Why is it so important to you that we accept it your way anyway? Why do you feel the need to insult us when we don't do exactly that?
I said it before. Do it your way and don't get angry when we dislike hearing the same advice aimed at us.

Just don't claim I don't suffer from depression, or that you know all about it. It may seem to you like I don't get it, but I actually do.
I used to be a wonderful guy, always nice to everyone. Why? Because I wasn't depressed as fuck all the time. I wasn't happy either, but compared to what I am now, it was heaven.
It doesn't affect everyone the same. If what I said doesn't help anyone, that's truly too bad. I don't think it helps me either, but it makes me feel slightly better to pretend that it does.

I said I don't care if you suffer from depression or not. I am just practicing healthy skepticism. I also didn't say I knew all about it. I said that your advice is heard by many others with depression as an attack. It's annoying every single time.
Now please practice your own methods and don't get upset that the rest of us don't want any part of it.

I didn't mean it to sound that way. I also have a problem communicating with others, which ends up making everyone around me miserable, including myself.

Really? We don't care if you care. Everyone else is allowed to hate your opinion and respond in kind. Often when you get like this it makes me feel like you're intent on making everyone else as miserable as you are.
