Church demands the victim apologize to pastor's wife since the pastor did the rape.
RE: Church demands the victim apologize to pastor's wife since the pastor did the rape.
My point is, if this young lady were leveling false accusations, it would probably come to light, given her youth.

The guy pleaded guilty. He admitted guilt.

Well I do have to admit of being completely wrong on this one. I simply took the story at face value and did not research any further and assumed why the church would behave in such a way...

Truth is they did not demand an apology at all:

Quote:The girl's mother said in court Thursday that church officials told her their family couldn't return to the church until she apologized to Mitchell's wife according to the Plain Dealer. Defense attorney Ian Friedman said Mitchell was never aware of that and on Friday Giallourakis said this was not true.

"It's not true. It was a willful misunderstanding of a conversation she had with our senior pastor. And it was not something that the church had ever put, there were no requirements for the family to return to the church. We had done everything we could to support them. The church at its own expense had arranged for counselling for all of the folks that are involved," said the assistant pastor to CP.

"The church was very proactive in going to the police before the mother even went to the police. We reported it to our congregation immediately and we tried to do everything that we could to be proactive and transparent," he continued.

Giallourakis did, however, admit that the teenager's mother and Mitchell's wife had discussed the situation and suggested it would be good if they made "amends." He did not indicate whether making amends required the teenager to apologize to Mitchell's wife who also served as a mentor.

"I was not privy to any information where church leaders asked that of the mother. There was to my understanding, a time when the wife of Brian and the mother talked together and the wife suggested that it would do a lot to heal the relationship with the young lady 'cause of course she was involved with the youth as a mentor as well, being Brian's wife. That it would do a lot to help, that if they could make amends with each other. Perhaps the mother misunderstood that to be more than it was," said Giallourakis.

Seems to me the church acted before the mother did, and the mother now is lashing back at the church for some reason.

That said.. It is evident that the girl did indeed involve herself with this married man with late night text and pics.
Quote:"The whirlwind two or three months of Snapchats and texts and the secrecy involved created an adrenaline- and lust-filled situation where he felt like there could be a future," Friedman said in begging the judge for leniency.

The Op's story is just another example of anti church propaganda, fuel by those who would be the first to line up in a lench mob if this were another time.

Because we all know there is no bias in the theistic media.

Oh, they called it "amends" instead -- as if the girl had done something wrong?

That makes everything all right, sure.

Are you saying that the girl had done something wrong? Why do you jump to the most negative interpretation of the phrase?

Why do you jump to the most negative interpretation of the phrase?

Here, let's look at the definition.

The Oxford English Dictionary Wrote:amends

PLURAL NOUN

Compensate or make up for a wrongdoing.

‘try to make amends for the rude way you spoke to Lucy’

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/us/amends

That is the only interpretation of that phrase, and it implicitly carries with it a charge of wrong-doing. Why you're ascribing that to me when it is the church which chose to insinuate wrong-doing on her part baffles me. I think you're upset at the wrong target.

I'm not saying she did anything wrong. I don't think she owes that church a goddamned thing, except perhaps a public excoriation for their disgusting behavior and a big, public middle finger.

So you would disagree with this definition then.
From: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/make_amends

Quote:(idiomatic) To repair a relationship; to make up; to resolve an argument or fight; to make reparations or redress.  [quotations ▼]

I hope they can stop fighting and make amends.

I think that the one who was wronged in a situation, can attempt to make amends. Although really it is not a single sided endeavor.

To make reparations or your definition is not a wrong definition, but it is not the only one.

What has she to make amends for? For that sucker raping her, who already pleaded guilty to the charges? What's on her side that requires this to be a multi sided endeavor?

So you do not thing that her and the wife, should make amends? What did the wife do? Should she harbor ill -feelings towards the wife?
