Who Are Your Favorite Fictional Characters (tv, movies, literature etc.)?

Castle is fun. But it's not good, IMO. It never was. It's mediocre and stupid.

I wish there was a good TV drama about a writer. So far, Californication is the best there is, but that's in short comedy form.

Yeah that captures it. Jumped the shark with the kidnapping before the wedding.

That was definitely the final nail in the coffin for me as well. I don't understand why it's so hard for a creative team to just say, "we're out of ideas folks!" and end on a high note.

Oh, wait, yes I do: $$$

Damn you network TV!

I always felt that part of Castle's problem was that it was PG-rated show about homicide. Kind of hard to have a gritty, realistic crime drama when you have to tone down the violence for all your 12-year-old viewers. That being said, I thought the story-telling/character development was pretty decent (within its rating limitations) in the first 4 or so seasons, and the leads gave some powerful and poignant moments I'll always remember. (That Hanger scene with the beautiful, blue lighting). I applauded showrunner A. Marlow for taking that brave leap bringing the two of them together romantically. It was done in a way that was very satisfying for the fans, IMO.

But alas, it was all downhill after that. Instead of telling new stories they just repeated the same old tropes they'd already used before the leads were a couple. E.g. 'A new, sexy detective comes on board to help with a case. Will jealousy threaten Castle and Beckett's relationship?!'

Snooze.

Here endeth my Castle rant. [emoji39]

Did you notice that Beckett's makeup and hair kept getting better with each season?

IMO, Dr. Sam Beckett (Quantum Leap) is a great character. I can definitely identify with Sam's idealism and desire to help others out.

re Castle,

Yes they should have let them get married in a big series finale double episode where the wedding is intermingled with some sort of crime in need of solving, the end. The way they did it, they must have known it sucked, but did it anyways.

YES!  Women on TV always get hotter as they age.  It's like some weird twilight zone that I wish I lived in, lol.
