The Gamecube was an awesome console.

Portable GameCube *high-pitched squealing*

I think the gamecube was shit, so therefore I still think you should buy the gpd xd instead of perving over this game cube trash. Mega drive + PS + arcade + master system + N64 vs portable game cube.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them. Impersonation is treason.
Get. Out.

Leave the GPD XD behind though.

I think the GameCube was a great console with a small, disappointing library. Especially after the stellar libraries of the N64, SNES, and NES.
Smash Bros. Melee, Soul Calibur 2, X-men Legends, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario Sunshine I enjoyed. Never played Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, or Pikmin. And I am one of the jerks who really disliked Wind Waker.

Oh yeah, it was really lacking in 3rd-party support unfortunately. I also loved Rogue Squadron (2 and 3), Spiderman 2, Need for Speed Underground 2, Beyond Good and Evil, and Pokemon Collosseum

I get why third parties bailed too. The disc and console were very different tech than PlayStation architecture. Many had already bailed when Nintendo was forced to stick to cartridges (N64) after Sony ditched them and made their own console. Sales for the PS2 were going through the roof, making sales more possible if they focused on that system. And Nintendo's dense corporate structure restricted developer freedoms.
The Wii was their chance to lure developers back, except it was still behind the times on the tech front. They had massive sales and mainstream appeal, but the cutting edge developers turned to the 360/PS3 for their games.

Wait, didn't the Lynx use cartridges and the GameCube use Discs? I'd have expected the hardware required to emulate the Gamecube's mechanics would be so much bigger.

It's got all the hardware from the GC inside of it, minus the disc drive, and runs the games off an SD card.
