Great marriage advice.

I love Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day, and here's another really great quote:
Quote:"The covenant only works if each partner, as best as possible, puts the other's needs above his or her own, with the understanding that the other will reciprocate." — David Brooks, The New York Times, 7 Mar. 2017
The whole idea, of course, is one of reciprocity, and not "morality from above" (i.e., "God").

Objective moral values exist because they can exist, and, hence, do exist.

I believe a lot do try.
The problem is that often neither understands the other's needs.

That's a nice sentiment and all, but it's not entirely true. Sometimes you do have to put yourself first just so you can have something to give later.
Marriage is more trial by fire than following sappy absolutes.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Our rule is never go to bed hurt or angry.

IMO, there is no warrant for elevating enlightened self-interest to a universal moral principle.

We've done that before, but neither of us could sleep anyways, so we'd sort it out somewhere around 4am and then be completely tired the next day.

Don't get married in the first place, probably the best advice of all.

Why not? Yahweh seems to have created Us show that we could love Him?! And, if we don't accept His love, then we "burn" for all Eternity! I think that I'll stick with Merriam Webster's quote on this one.

I disagree. Morals are subjective.

Secret of a happy marriage? Make sure she has her own desk, then keep your hands off of it.

Certainly, as evidenced by the fact that morality evolves, just like everything else.
