um . .

yeah, compared to all other plants, corn is damn weird.  And without people, it couldn't propagate.  A patch of corn left to itself will die out.  People need to harvest it, separate the seeds and plant them properly, otherwise, it just isn't viable.

That settles it then. There must be a god. No other explanation. Dunno

(Warning, corny jokes ahead)

Eg, I'm depressed, my corn fields are dying, going to need an ear...

No doubt there's a kernel of truth here, but if you don't stop this punnery, someone may stalk you.

Just [grit] your teeth and bear down. It'll pass.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I guess we're taking the joke down to the husk, eh?

And just to get dumb --

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Making us more resilient could pose other problems to the symbiosis we call the human digestive system. If they wanted us to be able to get the nutrients we need without bacteria and other lifeforms living in us, they would really have to rework the human body to overcome the deficiencies. Also there are issues with creating a totally different type of class warfare where you have the designer people of means versus then randoms who can't afford it.

We have on board already the needed genetics to make our own vitamin C except maybe for a single gene or something. Rats can make their own vitC and at one time our distant ancestors could too. It would be 'easy' (compared to making humans able to regrow severed limbs) to make humans permanently immune to scurvy.
