I'm pretty sure that is part of a first responders training.

Sure, adult humans are just as important as baby humans and it's equally important to be careful when driving around them too. But what people ought to care about and what people actually care about are two different things. And being effective is important.
The idea is that unless it's a bad wreck adults and older children should be able to get out themselves. Infants in car seats cannot.
If it isn’t a bad wreck then why the fuck can't the parents get the kid out?

Say you have an adult who is unconscious on the ground and a baby that you can't see who is hurt inside the car. That unconscious adult with their "baby on board" sign wants to make sure the paramedics get to their baby asap. Not after they've attended to him/her. The signs may not be super necessary but they're certainly not harmful.

I have always believed the "spawn in car seat" signs were to demand special treatment on the road.
"I got a diaper full of shit and baby back there and I need to get home. So don't get too close or the diaper comes out the window."

And if the kid's at home with his ma, the rescue crew are going to waste time tearing the car apart looking for the little bastard. Meanwhile pop's is bleeding to death. Whenever I see a 'Baby On Board' sticker I immediately translate it to 'Cunt On Board'. The cunt who put it there.

I thought those were an 80s fad but I've seen a few here and there over the past few years. I never had one - I figure I would have just screamed "Get my baby the fuck out of there" at the first responders (or got her out myself) if we were in a crash.
ETA: I don't know any first responders but I always thought they were trained to immediately look for victims, conscious or unconscious, when they arrive on scene.

Joking aside, those signs can be much more informative than the cunt who put it there intended. Warning! A potentially very distracted driver is behind the wheel, pass quickly if you value your safety.

Nah, they are trained to look for BoB stickers in the rear window, and if they don't see one they'll go back to the station.
Edit, Teresa, the snark wasn't directed at you btw.

BoB = Big Orange Book? I trained as a first responder back in '91; it was calles SOB, for Small Orange Book. Perhaps it has grown since I did that kind of work, 20+ years ago. I do not recall anything addressing babies on board. We were more focused on HazMat, though. But we'd sure look into any vehicles that had been involved, as well. Crazy not to.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
