If you say so.  I wonder, though, if you think that discrimination is the "rational answer"..............?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I think the answer Neo is looking for is the potential to have children.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Something that a couple can't lay claim to by being hetero in any case.  Useless. Fuck,.it's not as if a gay couple is somehow inhuman., that by being gay one or the other is incapable of procreation.

Not exactly, I am looking for his answer. I don't think he has one and I don't think he cares.

Correction, I don't care about -your- answer. I'm not one of those Good Atheists™ who knows his place or thinks you have one.

RE: Freedom from religion
But keep in mind most religious people sincerely believe in what their religion says. As an atheist it might seem like discrimination but forcing them to do things against their religion is not a good thing. I'm talking about 2017, so yes homosexuality is still a sensitive topic in religion (and will hopefully and most likely be phased out and accepted as the indoctrination gets erased by science and education in the near future).

For example racism and other silly issues like slavery and sexism has been slowly filtered out (by Christianity at least, Islam still has a ways to go lol). But it'll get there. Forcing the issue just seems a bit extreme, since as I mentioned, it's only 2017 and there are theist that genuinely believe that homosexuality is wrong, they grew up with those topics being drilled into their heads, hard to call it discrimination.

The question is, if they sincerely believed that mixed race marriage was wrong, would we be having this same conversation? I mean, this was the conversation 40 years ago, and yet here we are again.

What about if they thought, as some Muslims apparently do, that woman are mentally unequal to certain challenges, such as say, driving. If one was an auto mechanic, would he then be allowed to refuse to repair a car owned by a woman, even if he's the only repair shop in town?
