You don't need the Plus account to be my friend, and I was stupid to have wasted the money for the one year subscription anyway. Won't be making that mistake again, because multi-player is simply not worth it when there's never anyone around for it---at least with the games I play.

Right... well friend request sent and accepted so... thanks, friend Wink

I'm not sure about the Plus account at all; say I want to play a two player game with my sister but she lives cross country... do I need a plus account to do that? And does it also just set you up with random players any time you need them (ie similar to how fortnite works) for any and every game that has multiplayer options... it sounds pretty cool I have to say. For instance the game that I've got - Trackmania - looks very band in single player mode... so much so that I'd feel I'd wasted money on it if that's all there is to it, so it seems highly reliant on multiplayer features... so I don't know.

The Plus account is really only needed for disk games (games you physically buy from the store) that have the multiplayer option.

For your sister to play, what you're asking is not how multiplayer works.

So long as your sister has the PS console and the Fortnite game downloaded on there, you can both play: nothing extra needed.

Never heard of Trackmania.

Don't remind me Facepalm... as I said I'm new to all this; I bought the thing and thought the PlayStation network was just so I could buy stuff; I didn't know it was gonna be my unchangeable handle forever after in every game, so I'm lumbered with that Sad Facepalm Wink... they should be more clear about these things and not assume that everybody knows what everything is in this modern world Wink /rant Wink

Okay... well I guess I'll just have to see in practice what I can or can't do multiplayer wise without Plus, now that I have a friend on there (you)... ie it might not have offered me any options because I didn't have any friends on there until you.

All my games are bought from the PlayStation store... ie digital (that's the other thing I'm liking about this; that I can use the PS4 like a Kindle for games and never bother with hard copies any more)... does that make a difference? (since you said they need to be disc games).

Trackmania Turbo is in the PlayStation store under the category 'driving and racing' games.

I think you still misunderstand. Multiplayer games themselves are simply multiplayer without needing the Plus subscription.

The only problem you might encounter with the digital downloads is that you might eventually run out of memory.

Yeah... in that case I really don't understand; a lot of them for instance say to get a Plus account to use their online/multiplayer features... so I don't know what level of multiplayer falls outside of that purview... but as I said, trial and error I might get there...

Yeah, I'm not worried about that; it's a 1TB HDD and extendable after that... also my sister said it keeps it in the cloud as it were... like the kindle... so if you delete a game you can... at least sometimes... download it again in the future.

Let me just say this: you don't need Plus for Fortnite. It's already an online multiplayer game. If you purchase a game from the store that is not an MMO, say Dragon Age: Inquisition which has a multiplayer option then you need the Plus subscription.

Okay, to clear this up I guess what I'm saying is now that you're a friend on there, is it going to pop up in any game the option for me to play two player with you (ie select friends from my friends list to play something)? Not including fortnite, cod I know that's an exception, but any other game? If the Plus is required, would we both need it and/or both need to have a copy of the game in question... ie in Trackmania would we both need to have the game and a Plus account in order to play each other over the network?

If by two-player, and I'm guessing you're around the same age as me, it simply doesn't work that way. Two-player is still what the extra controller is for, the person being there physically beside you to play.

For Trackmania, it appears you would need Plus for the multiplayer option; from what I can tell having taken a brief look at it.
