Coffee and Depression

Coffee and Depression
A couple people had forwarded the news discussed here to me in hopes my charming disposition might be further improved if I drank enough caffeine to choke a moose.

Now for a closer look at the study.

RE: Coffee and Depression
The article gets my support....

My opinion is I have found that Coffee drinking
1) reduces asthma in one predisposed to the affliction. (Three cups usually does the trick first thing in the morning)
2) I am a "mongrel bitch" prior to that first coffee of the morning (Don't make me kill you)
3) Of all the "Non-prescription" drugs (alcohol, Nicotine, caffeine) coffee is the most innocuous and is becoming "trendy" again
4) my current ill-health can be directly related to the use of De-Caf (*shudders)
5) science will not be able to conclusively pin this one down as it may be a "genetic thingy"
6) depression can be "cured" by killing most busy bodying do-gooders and just enjoying your life
7) smoking Tobacco is also good for it''s "anti-depressant" qualities and has been used in the past for the same reason.
8) Tea just doesn't cut it for me
9) Coffee is up there with oil is the global market

Thank you for sharing, Summer!!!! Yeah for more reasons to drink coffee (as I lift up my mug)!!! The other benefit is it raises your metabolism so you burn more fat which is an awesome side-effect as well (the study mentions this in a way when it says people that drink it weigh less than those that do not but do not necessarily exercise more). I hear it isn't good on the bowels though... I'll stick to my tea, like the good little British boy I am, pip pip.

I should show this to my psychiatrist, who is constantly "encouraging" me to decrease my caffeine consumption (yeah, like that's going to happen).

Well, you have to be careful with that, Heather, but it's fairly accurate - a lot of "protein" exercise mixes or diet pills actually have caffeine in them to help boost weight loss. The jury's still out on a couple things involving coffee health though, so I'm skeptical of whether or not several cups of coffee a day is a good thing in the long run.

Kichi - black coffee was long used for asthma treatment - even Teddy Roosevelt did it. When I drag my ass out of bed in the mornings for a run, I don't go until I've had at least a cup of it black. Otherwise, I'm hacking nasties out of the bronchial tubes all day long.

I drink 8-10 cups of real coffee a day .I think life is too short to drink instant coffee which is not only horrible but also gives you cancer and makes you impotent..

I compare the effect with making a drunk drink say a gallon of coffee; what you end up with is wide awake drunk with an even fuller bladder.Thinking

It's part of my treatment regimen. Cool Shades

After glancing at a medicine cabinet full of prescriptions, and the stack of bills from my therapist, psychiatrist and an inpatient treatment facility, I have to agree.

It takes lots and lots of work, often medication(s), and occasionally inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment. Mostly lots of work.
