Blessings are still extended, of course, to pedophile priests.

So that means that Pope won't marry his boyfriend Bart

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I posted an AP article earlier.

Good thing is that the Pope has no real power beyond those who swallow his bullshit. LGBT are not obligated to bow to his bullshit.

Funny, because in the other thread you seemed to think the Pope DID have that power. Make up your mind.

I'm wondering what Brian thinks power is if the pope doesn't have it. Btw, some LGBT will have to bow to him as they are devoted Catholics.

Earlier, he implied that the Pope has the power to make laws. While this is patently false (outside of Vatican City), the pontiff wields tremendous power over the billion or so Catholics in the world.

And the second bit is what’s truly sad. Right on the heels of exhorting us to love one another, he denies the blessings of the Church to gay people. To some, that’s pretty important.

Hateful indeed.

The purpose of religion is to fight against made-up enemies like the devil, bad vibes, Bogeyman, bad karma, sin, female dominance, etc., therefore it will never be useful.

So are people really surprised when religion fails to do anything useful?

Why are you so mad? It affects you in no way whatsoever, since you live in a secular state & you don't believe in Catholicism.

So, only those things which affect us immediately and personally are worthy of concern?

I'm neither Tutsi nor Rwandan, but that genocide affected me.

I'm not a parent, but I'm angered by child abuse.

I'm neither Muslim nor Arab, but I object to the characterization of all members of these groups as terrorist.

I'm not elderly, but elder abuse makes me angry.

And so on.

I'm not sure it makes sense to say that religious beliefs don't effect us if we don't believe in the ghost stories. It's an awfully lazy windup to the evergreen angry atheist routine.
