Yea forget that it takes up most of the west coast.
Stop getting nit picky about that. Most people would not get my reference outside fans of the song I am talking about.
Let me try this again.
If you drive up to buy fuel at a gas station, you have your choices of regular, mid grade, or supreme, but ever notice the 4th choice that has a green handle which is not gas, but a fossil fuel as well? Name that fuel, then google the name referring to music as a band name, look up it's discography. Keep looking at the "Mill Valley" part you got right, but think commute to a location just above the Golden Gate Bridge that starts with an "S" and fucking hard to pronounce. The city/town literally looks over the bay at street water level.

Um no, I asked for the name of city/town of his character's residency, of BJ, nobody has answered that part of the question, and that would answer my original post what does his character's residency have in common with my favorite "one hit wonder".
Partial answers are not full answers.

There is only ONE major town north of the Golden Gate, in which one can look across the bay and see Alcatraz and the SF skyline as soon as you get off the Golden gate north of the city . There was an 80s band that mentioned this town/city in it's one hit. The band has the name of a fossil fuel. It's one hit mentioned the town/city in it's title. The band starts with a "D" named after fossil fuels, the song title starts with the letter "S' and for most is hard to pronounce.

Uggggggg... Ok, fine, without posting the video, I will simply tell you.
"Diesel" the band, the song, "Sausalito Summernight" .... BJ' as the character goes, lived in Mill Valley, but he did his residency, as the script goes south of Mill Valley in Sausalito just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. "Sausalito" is the city/town name that both BJ's character and the "one hit wonder" had in common, even though the two were not related.
You got stuck on "Mill Valley" when I was asking where he actually worked. Which is why I pointed out that people commute to work.
