Trump is about to cost the US defense industry trillions of dollars .
The EU is proposing a $163 billion annual loan programme to shore up the defense capabilities of member states. There’s a proviso that anyone taking advantage of the loans will have to buy from European contractors.
Currently, 63% of EU defense spending goes to American suppliers. That $100 billion per year will be gone.

What nation would want American gear when the Administration in power may well cut off support? Remember, we're not just talking spare parts, which can be stockpiled, but software updates or new chipsets, like both the F-22 and the F-35, amongst other systems, require. If America can cut them off because the Toddler has a tantrum, do you really want to buy it?

I don't have the article handy but I read earlier Portugal is reconsidering the F-35. I can't imagine they're the only ones.

Between UK, Germany, France, and Sweden, they can put together a consortium which will compete really well against our duopoly of Boeing and Lockheed-Martin (with Northrop-Grumman as an also-ran). It will take time, to be sure, but it will be, and feel to them, much more secure against our whimsy.

No possible doubt about it. Awty’s link says that Canadian tourism alone adds more than $20 billion to the US economy every year. Factor in all the other countries that Trump is doing his best to denigrate, and it’s going to come to a significant chunk of change.
