Theist: God loves you.
Bible: God loves you.
Atheist: If god loves me, why does he do all of this shit (see Bible)?
Theist: Oh, love does not mean what you think it does.
Atheist: Oh, that explains everything.
Only works if you're speaking to an idiot, drich.
Also,
Quote:Agápe (ἀγάπη agápē[1]) means "love" (unconditional love) in modern day Greek, such as in the term s'agapo (Σ'αγαπώ), which means "I love you". In Ancient Greek, it often refers to a general affection or deeper sense of "true love" rather than the attraction suggested by "eros". Agape is used in the biblical passage known as the "love chapter", 1 Corinthians 13, and is described there and throughout the New Testament as sacrificial love. Agape is also used in ancient texts to denote feelings for one's children and the feelings for a spouse, and it was also used to refer to a love feast. It can also be described as the feeling of being content or holding one in high regard. Agape was appropriated by Christians for use to express the unconditional love of God.[citation needed] Before agape love there was no other word to express such great love.

Drich seems like a pretty straight-up christian: He reads the words, decides what they have to mean based on someone else's work and despite the lack of temporal context, then bastes liberally with snakeoil to slide the point that EVERYONE deserves to be punished by his sky wizard whether they recognize the character or not.
Being ignorant of the level of suggestibility he suffers can only be a good thing.

You say that as if it is a fact. Is it?
Or does it just say so in the bible.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Because as you and I already know, their god is nothing more than a collection of land hungry, sheep farming, slave selling, fish smelling, baby killing tent dwellers turned self-proclaimed prophets.

Seriously? You do understand that wiki is not actual reference material correct? So if/When I produced actual reference material (as in the last time I had this discussion one or two pages ago) and it contradicts the commentary posted on wiki, their can be no argument from you that the reference material supersedes what the guy who posted on wiki had to say..

You've tried to spin this (your dismissal) three times now.
Are you so foolish that you do not understand how basic translation works? Or is it your hope that everyone else does not? Because that is the only way your observation holds merit.
Koine Greek is a dead language. No one speaks it fluently. That means all we have are the recorded works of "other men." Are you so foolish to say the same about a translated text written in Latin? Or will you concede that without the "works of other men" The understanding of Latin would be lost?

Not quite. Much more like, "Your statements contradict your own holy book." By the way, nothing "allows" me to disbelieve in god. I disbelieve in god because there is nothing to prove it exists.

Really ignorant retort considering it hasn't worked on any atheists. Hmmm.

It is pure self-mockery that Abish continues to suggest only he has access to knowledge of that "special kind" of lovin'.

Which god is loving me again? There are thousands of gods and millions of interpretations. Why is your interpretation the right one? I want to start with that before we get back to the riveting discussion on "agape."

It seems to me if you can attest to the love of God, you most certainly believe you know something of God.

This is a good reference, one apparently you did not read in it's entirety.
For it does not support your position.
Quote:or this?

No, this would be considered a commentary. Do you not understand the contrast between the authority of reference material, and the conjecture found in personal or even an official commentary?
Quote:How about this?
http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=agape love
again no. This is not reference material. It is just a definition that does not support your assertion.

Do you not find it amusing a four year old's argument has the ability to deconstruct and dismiss all of your perfectly spelled out and grammatically correct responses?
I have always found that when people like you run out of relevant material to argue, the conversation appeals to their education as an attempt to accomplish what their well worded but poorly supported argument could not. As if somehow the legitimacy of the argument is tied to how you spell.
I have also found this to be true: Those who can do, Those who can't teach. Those who can't teach grade posts, rather than address the topic being discussed.

what section of the forum are we in again?? Your help here could answer your own question.
Quote: Why is your interpretation the right one?
Because I took the original Greek word being represented and crossed it to the English.

So if that is self mockery.. What is it when someone who claim to not believe in God, claims to know more of the love said God offers, than someone who has spent the majority of his life studying that same God?
How is it that you can know of this God's love when you claim He does not exist? If you believe He does not exist then how can you argue about the "special kind of lovin" being offered?
