Sentience/subjective experience is something not really understood at all, and something that some philosophers consider impossible to explain. It does not fall under the other categories of consciousness such as self awareness and intelligence, but is something independent. It's impossible to observe a subjective experience. That being said, I agree with 5thHorseman. Whether you worship it or not will make no difference. Why waste the energy?

Well, I certainly won't be praying to the sun but I think that this is a reverence that I like and it is the closest thing to theism that anyone will ever catch me practicing
