Above is not an Islamic definition btw.
Apparently a Shaivite definition. (But a different opinion on the same thing)

God (ˈgäd):
"the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe" or "a being or object believed to have more than natural attributes and powers and to require human worship; (...)" The 99 descriptions you provided all seem to be roles for functions I'm not at all sure need an overseer. Or else they just seem obtusely contradictory like the "restrictor" and the "reliever", or, the "subduer" and the "merciful". Would it be asking too much to request a fill-in the blank answer to my question? If anything does _____________________ , it is God or a god.

No, no, Cato, that's just a case of mis-identification.
(I've always wondered if the inherent creepiness of that urge ever crossed the minds of those who exhibit it, btw) "Oh god...oh god" "Uh, no...still just just me....but if you want me to leave so the two of you can have a minute alone....."
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I am a complete incompetent when it comes to making any sense of what a god may be. here is my cut and paste from my introduction.... The Supreme Being for Dummies To be or not to be. Are we being? Yes. Is the universe being? Yes. Does the universe rely on any external power for its being? No. Therefore, is the universe supreme? Yes. Finally, is the universe a supreme being? Yes...but.... But is the universe a Supreme Being? Well...um...yes...I mean no...it depends on whether you mean a rock is a being...or a Being...um....help!
I have no idea why everyone seems to be posting non-sense and avoiding the subject.
The definition of a god (or at least God) according to Islam is set by both the Hadith (Sayings of Mohammed that never made it into the Koran) as well as the Koran itself. There are 99 attributes aka "names" that define "God". These names are sometimes used to refer to God. In Islam God is the creator of everything; Heaven and earth, the sun, moon and the planets, man, animals... well you get the picture. He (yes it's a HE) is immortal. Existed and will always exist. Was not created. Omnipotent, omni-benevolent, omni-sapient, omniscient, and omnipresent. He was not born and did not give birth (although the later is understood generally as he has no child.) God is capable of extreme punishment or great mercy. When people die, the soul goes back to him. Mohammed was supposedly asked once about where God is to which he responded "he is closer to you than your own carotid." In Arabic the word Allah is a contraction of Al Ilah. Which both mean "The God". This is contrary to what a lot of people who do not know Arabic claim; that Allah and God are not the same. Christians use the same word in the Arabic bibles. ![]() Notice the small "w" with a vertical line on top. This is a shaddah (it doubles the letter below it) above it a superscript alef to make the second a in allah a long "A".

That's why the Muslim Conquests were called "Al Fateh Al Islami" 21. Al-Qabid (القابض) The Constrictor. It's more like the one who grips. Can also be understood as one who gets paid, or harvests souls. 22. Al-Basit (الباسط) The Reliever 23. Al-Khafid (الخافض) The Abaser 26. Al-Mudhill (المذل) The Humiliator 55. Al-Matin (المتين) The Forceful One <- Wrong translation. This mean the durable one. The sturdy one.
