I was at work the other day, talking with a work companion about perfection, when I came up with an interesting idea. Probably most certainly has been thought of before, but here it is. I will pose it as some questions.

Is a thought perfect?

Can a thought be perfect?

Define 'perfect'.

Entirely without any flaws, defects, or shortcomings. Uniform in nature.

It is not a simple question. For if you state it like this without giving any boundaries to it (like "within the rules of formal logic" or "as pertaining to the reality of it") it seems to mean "always and under all circumstances". But that means you would need knowledge of all circumstances prior to answering the question. IOW you need knowledge of absolute truth first.

Indeed. It is not an easy question. And you raise a very good point.

Ok, two question, two answers for me.

Is a thought perfect? No ^as for your example given above.

Can a thought be perfect? Yes, depending on the thought.

But, there seems to be a deeper question here.

I then seem to be asking myself what is a thought?

"I thought I knew the answer to that but I think I may not." I thought.

"What do you think?" I'm thinking of asking so I may know your thoughts on thought.

A thought or an idea could be perfect under certain circumstances. Such as finding solutions to problems (contextually perfect); Emotionally perfect "I just had the best idea!". While some might say that thinking about thinking is the least perfect sort of thought. And still others could say there was a better way - some time in the future perhaps.
I liked the part of the movie in "Meet Dave", Dave filled the chalk board with both hands and tells the class "You are now educated".

The only way you could tell if a thought is perfect would be

to examine what it leads to.

Either nothing or everything is perfect. Because either nothing or everything has 'flaws'.... if you want an objective perspective on this that is. Because since 'flaws' are entirely man made concepts and since perfection= "without flaws", then 'perfection' is an entirely subjective concept and value just like 'flaws'. So, being a complete nihilist when it comes to all objective values, I don't believe that anything is at all perfect in an objective sense (or you might as well say "everything is perfect", that's equally meaningless - it's basically the same thing just with opposite wording!) - just as how I don't believe that anything at all has 'flaws' in an objective sense. Why? Because I don't believe I know of the existence of any for any objective values whatsoever.

Perfect is an artificial word because it is only defined and judged by humans. I consider nature to be "perfect" hence I am perfect and everything I do is perfect, even when it is "wrong."
