By creating a God, the god is a reflection of the human. Therefore by worshipping the god as the creator of the universe, you are actually worshipping yourself as the creator of the universe. This makes you arrogant. We were created. By the Earth. Somehow.

I don't think most theists are responsible for their belief systems- they inherit them from their families, cultures, and communities. Sure, a very few convert to a totally foreign religion or make up a new one, but most fall into the belief systems they are born to. Yes, there is arrogance aplenty in much religious thinking, but I don't think may theists are, or think they are, worshiping themselves- this seems like the kind of warping of other worldviews that theists do to atheists often. There's enough arrogant crap to combat in theistic thinking without inventing new- and probably inaccurate- reasons.
