Sure, a very few convert to a totally foreign religion or make up a new one, but most fall into the belief systems they are born to. Yes, there is arrogance aplenty in much religious thinking, but I don't think may theists are, or think they are, worshiping themselves- this seems like the kind of warping of other worldviews that theists do to atheists often. There's enough arrogant crap to combat in theistic thinking without inventing new- and probably inaccurate- reasons.
I didn't say they were responsible. I said someone created it and forced them to believe. The people who created it are responsible, but that was a long, long time ago. They may not think they are worshipping themselves but in fact they are, they are worshipping what they imagine, and if they worship what they imagine, they are worshipping themselves, if they are in fact worshipping what someone else imagined, they are worshipping a human whose name they do not know, or several humans. It doesn't have a written by.
Superstition is very common, as such, saying untruths is very common. A lie is just a reflection of yourself.
A god being just an idea is no more than an imaginary friend.
Don't call me inaccurate, I'm pointing out the obvious, based on the data provided.
