Atheists in foxholes monument.
http://www.mindspring.com/~alutiiq/athei...holes.html

Quote:The on again / off again "Atheists-in-Foxholes" monument projects have been around since World War I. Many organizations have attempted to raise money for the project, but until recently, the project never got off the ground. A freethinking veteran gave a generous donation to the Freedom From Religion Foundation for the sole purpose of an "Atheists-in-Foxholes" monument to be located somewhere in the United States.

It's high time too.

I find it highly ironic that this is in Alabama, the 2nd highest state for religiosity (after Mississippi).

Piddly looking monument don't ya think? Surely a carbon atom or something on the top would be better.

That would again associate atheism with science and knowledge and so forth, which is probably the farthest thing on the serviceman's mind when they were in foxholes getting shot at.

What a great idea! Not too far from where I live there is a monument that reads, "FOR ALL THOSE WHO SERVED BOTH GOD AND COUNTRY". I find this wording to be an insult. I can only assume that whoever erected this monument does not intend for it to honor atheists who served their country. Why is it even necessary to incorporate a mythical deity into a monument intended to honor veterans?
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

It could be a reason they were conned into getting involved.

Sad, but true, Minimalist, but at least it will give us one more thing to be irate with the Jesus lovers about.
