The issue of blood transfusions has become a real problem for them for the reason you state; transfusions have become much safer and a very reliable way to save lives. Due to this and other issues (ie, the risk to hemophiliacs) they have changed their stance considerably over time. Read this and you'll see that although they insist that they do not accept blood transfusions, they've gutted the policy with so many exceptions and changes that you wonder how long it will be before they simply admit that they got it wrong.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Personally I was polite to them at first, however they seemed to take this as some sort of encouragement and started turning up regularly.
Now I ignore them, wait for them to drop the magazine through the letterbox and dump it in the recycling.
Apart from JWs we also get Mormons and Baptists, they get the same treatment.
A mate of mine demolished them on interpretation of the bible, whilst my future father in law decided to pretend to be a naturist and opened the door starkers, apparently they legged it...

That's one of the lessons that the bible teaches, though. Yahweh comes before all.

Jehovah's Witnesses [and Wrote:Blood Transfusions]What is generally unknown is that over its history the Watchtower Society has made a virtual 360 degree turn on their acceptance of blood products.
So they made a 180 degree turn and accepted blood transfusions at some point in time, only to make another 180 back to not accepting them???

For educational purposes: 360 degrees is a full circle. 180 degrees is half a circle. Thank you.

But which did they do? A 180 implying that the JW's original position on transfusions was "yes, do them!" and now it is "No transfusions for you!" or a 360 which implies that they disallowed transfusions, went through a period of time where they allowed them, and then went back to disallowing them?

They don't come around where I live. But there are a lot who stand around in the cold (winter now) preaching a variety religions. I feel sorry for them, but I don't know what to do. Do I tell them to go home and stay warm? Of course they won't. But I've come to think that Toronto is quite atheistic because these people are constantly ignored. And it's so cold out, and some of them are really old people, can't be good for their health.

Yes I am very similar.Though again I look silly when I get angry so I don't bother.
The whole blood transfusion thing is silly in my opinion. I am fine with adults deciding not to have one but children should get them if it is life and death not matter the religion. They haven't had a chance to make up there own mind yet.

I'm the exact opposite. I will not tolerate anti-gay sentiment.
