The air force has wanted to get rid of the A-10 for a long time. They don't see the need for a single mission close air support aircraft. On the other hand the army has a real need for aircraft to fulfill that role. They love the A-10.

We should cut our defense budget by nothing less than half. The only thing I'd increase is VA benefits to help all the veterans who've been fucked up by W's personal little war of aggression against Iraq.
Until we slash our defense budget, I don't want to hear a peep about how Medicare and Social Security need to be on the table.

In my opinion, military spending should be pro rata, defined by combining how much you are financing education and health in your nation.
In other words, the military will only get sufficient financing that they consider necessary of health care and education are allocated a comparable significance. Idealistic? Yes. Unrealistic? Most probably. Do I rescind it? Absolutely not.
The military needs that money to defend freedom & democracy from Islam!
