But...going with your reply to me--the Bible is not credible proof of a god's existence. Why do you treat it as such?

You and I probably have a different understanding of the term "judge". Since it can be used in a variety of ways what one implies when using the term is not always clear.

And by the way, I know there are some Christians who do condemn others for committing what they believe to be sins. I have seen this first hand so I do not dispute the assertion that some Christians condemn people. In fact, the Apostle Paul spoke about it and as we would expect, he rebukes those who do.

Nor have I ever used the word "apprentice" in any of my posts here.

With regards to your suggestion on a debate topic, I am happy to say I think we can tweak it a little and come up with a concise sentence for our topic.

Agreed?

I was being facetious about my apprentice comment.

Second, I see I will need to copy pasta the post where you "judge" me (and others) but I will come back to that.

Ok, proceed with your question that you wish to debate. But a word of unsolicited advice. If you want a fair and balanced debate, you need to not come up with your own definitions for things, example, the word "judge."

We all judge but I don't admonish, and you do. I have observed it on here. You do it in a passive aggressive way, but you do it.

So as long as you debate in a fair way, I will gladly participate.

Bring it. Big Grin

When I was a Christian, I didn't thrust my views onto others, condemning them if they didn't believe as me.

So, enlighten me OP. :-)

What do you mean by "thrust"?

I don't pretend to speak for the lady but I think it is pretty obvious what is meant by "thrust", as illustrated at the 50 second point in this video.

You have stated:

Two questions and a statement regarding the above:

1. How are you using the word "credible" in the above statement. What is your understanding of the term?

2. How are you using the word "proof" in the above statement. What is your understanding of the term?

3. If we agree on a debate topic, we will be not be discussing "a god", but rather the God of the Bible. To be specific I will use a portion of a wikipedia article to make this clear. In Christianity, God is the eternal being who created and preserves the world. Christians believe God to be both transcendent (wholly independent of, and removed from, the material universe) and immanent (involved in the world). Christian teachings of the immanence and involvement of God and his love for humanity exclude the belief that God is of the same substance as the created universe but accept that God incarnated as a man.
Early Christian views of God were expressed in the Pauline Epistles and the early creeds which proclaimed one God and the divinity of Jesus almost in the same breath, as in 1 Corinthians (8:5-6): "For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many 'gods' and many 'lords'), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live."

So if we agree on a topic and that topic has anything to do with God, then it needs to be understood that we have a specific concept of God in mind, i.e. the concept of God as presented above.

We are ironing out the details here. Once we are ready, we will then move to have our own thread started in the debate section of the philosophy forum at which point just Deidre and myself will be interacting.

I take words at their face value. Credible means ''offering reliable grounds to be believable.'' Credible doesn't mean what you decide it means, nor what I decide it means. It means, what it means. Are you going to make up new definitions for words? lol Let's stick to the REAL definitions of words, as they are defined in any english dictionary.

Ok, fair enough. Tomato, toe-mah-toe.

Can we use the words credible and reliable interchangeably?

With regards to proof, can we use the words evidence and proof interchangeably?

I did open this thread to gain debate topics. This is an open forum. Anyone can post whatever they want here. I just ask that the thread be not derailed.

I said that when you and I begin debating, it will be just you and I debating.

What'd I say? 20 bucks this never happens after a bunch of "ironing" of details.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Yes, and yes.

Okay. My pick >> You need to prove why you believe the Bible is a credible source to establishing the existence of God. (The One and Only God, using your terminology)

And I will debate/refute.

That sounds like a good start.
