At least, in the UK, such a defense causes almost universal derision and is more likely to get you an extended sentence (with time in the padded rooms) than any sympathy from a judge. Not to mention what the general prison population make of child-killers! I know it's scant consolation for those who suffer or are moved by such tragedies but it's reassurance that the vast majority of people are still sane.

I wish it were that way here, but unfortunately with as religious and superstitious as the population is, in some jurisdictions they don't even prosecute people who allow their kids to die while they pray for them to get better instead of taking them to a doctor.

That's sickening abrogation of parental and legislative responsibility. I assume there are those who publically oppose such behaviour, both socially and politically?
