Scar is bad, but the movie is obviously making everything crumble just because he's the villain of the film. Hyenas don't cause places they're in to become a wasteland. killing your family does not cause a drought. It's just that he wanted power, but didn't know what to do with it.

Sauron is probably the most evil of the four. Still, he doesn't seem to be so much a character in LOTR, as just a force for the heroes to fight. This may be different in the Silmarillion.

I voted Sauron. He's basically Tolkein's anti-christ.

Melkor was the ainur who rebelled against Eru Illuvatar and Manwe. He's basically Satan. Sauron was his lackey. Melkor (Morgoth) was defeated and Sauron basically just filled his gap. He's not as powerful as Melkor, but every bit as evil.

Voldemort, Scar, and Darth have "good" reasons for their shenanigans. Sauron is basically a fallen angel. He just wants to watch the world burn and kill some damn elves.

Vader is probably the one culpable for the biggest crimes, but I'd argue he isn't inherently evil like a couple of the others. Sauron gets my vote.

I've always found the gods of the Cthulhu mythos to be the most frighteningly evil.

Vader doesn't belong in the poll, but his boss does. The Emperor manipulated everyone, started multiple wars, destroyed planets, and brought down the Republic that last thousands of years, all for his own personal glory and power. For that matter, even blowing up Alderaan was Tarkin's idea, not Vader's. At most, Vader's the 3rd most evil character in the SW movies.
