Malleable children pick up their behavior from what they witness around them and on the television. If they are being selfish, egotistical bullies, one needs to look no further than the adults whom surround the children. In most cases, the disgusting behavior is learned from an older sibling or the parents.
Your problem is that you seem to love making erroneous assumptions rather than looking at the real cause of the problem. It does not surprise me, to be honest, because that is how theists tend to operate. You would rather create and fantasize about your own twisted form of reason to suit you rather than being a truly rational human being.

One needs to look no further than the fallible, primitive men who created the biblical hogwash. Those who are most disgusted by something are the same ones who secretly have fantasies of doing precisely what it is they are so adamantly against. It makes no sense, when placed under the microscope of rationality, but there one has it. Utter madness derived from what one wishes to control in others because he cannot control it in himself.

For shame. :p
discipulus, marriage did not come from God! Please stop posting that. It originated from PAGAN rituals, but Christianity hijacked the concept and put the God spin on it.
You should not post falsehoods.

You all are hitting it out of the park, today. I'm so grateful to be a part of this ''community,'' that just shoots straight, and does so in a diplomatic way. Kudos to you, this is a great post. I wholeheartedly agree.

Bishop Spong suggests that the apostle Paul was a repressed homosexual and that is why he condemned it. I've read this, as well. The ''Apostle Paul,'' talks about how he had a chronic thorn in his side, yet he was 'grateful to God' for it, as in his weakness, he would boast of God's strength. I happen to think as well that the ''thorn'' was his realization that he was a homosexual, and didn't feel comfortable coming out with it. I also believe he was a misogynist...he seemed to have a disdain for women, which is why he taught people (men) to treat them like second class citizens.
Christians either don't wish to see this as it is, or just have made excuses as to not cringe when they read these passages. Or they themselves have the same issues, and feel that the Bible gives them a place of 'acceptance.'

I am content with my life. Compared to how I was, I would never go back to how I was.
As it should be. Note that living however you freely choose does not equal your beliefs being less silly or more respectable. They are still grade A stupid and entirely without merit. But I'm glad it tickles your fancy and has given you the illusion of strength and self-control... if that's what it had to take for you.

He would love them and show them compassion and let all of the ones who did condemn know that they are not without sin. The account of the woman caught in adultery is one of my favorite passages. This is how my Lord would respond to such people. Also, you do realize the passage that you're referring to is a known later interpolation and not indicative of anything originally recorded in John's Gospel, yes?

Paul hated both women and gays, which didn't leave a lot of options for smooching and that was his problem.
Humans are sexual beings, regardless of our orientation. Our need for sexual gratification is one of the most powerful drives in our nature. A religion that is truly divinely inspired should be expected to guide us into coming to terms with our sexuality in a healthy way. Christianity fails in this task, exalting celibacy, demonizing sex and especially demonizing sex between people with similar body parts.
If Dis is telling the truth about his life experiences (frankly, given his past behavior on this forum, I find no reason to trust anything he claims but let that go for now), he's a repressed bisexual. He's admitted that he's uncomfortable with the fact that he's had sexual desires for at least one person of the same gender. Studies have shown that bisexuals who haven't come to terms with their versatile sexuality can become homophobic.
He backpeddled somewhat, answering questions about what was wrong with the "lifestyle" of gays that he just didn't feel it was appropriate to speak openly about one's sexual orientation. I'm personally all-too familiar with style of closeted homophobia, having heard it from some former friends who distanced themselves from me since I came out as bisexual. On the plus side, since coming out I don't have to hear them crack a gay joke or anti-gay slur and then follow with "um, not that there's anything wrong with that" or when the topic of gay rights comes up, hear them couch their feelings with "well, just as long as they keep it out of my face."
Dis clearly has issues, not unlike his sacred prophet Paul.

If holding back sexual urges makes you a better person I'm sorry if I seem confused. With all the bitching, moaning and concern of others it seems like the said person is missing something from their life rather than gaining.

Not that we should act on every carnal urge we have, obviously not. But, it would seem that the problem comes in the form of stifling something that's natural to feel and experience. If you are walking down the street, and like discipulus states, has to constantly be mindful of every potentially ''impure'' thought he's having, afraid that he may be betraying his Lord, then he's missing the beauty of that day. When your mind is preoccupied with sin, potential sin, others' sin...you are missing out on the beauty of living life.
I believe in temperance, but I don't believe in dubbing natural behaviors and feelings as sinful, bad, evil. That type of negative thinking, while the religious person thinks it elevates him/her to another level, it really just causes them to become obsessed with the very thing they're trying not to think about.
